New build: How can I tell that all my hardware is working correctly?

Well, I've just built my dream computer (multi-tasking, gaming, videos, etc.). It runs like a dream to be sure, but I'm wondering if I haven't got something messed up... I'm playing the World of Warcraft on Ultra setting with no lag, but I've just downloaded The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to test it out a bit more, and it recommended that I use the High graphics setting; not the Ultra option.
Here's an overview of what I have:

Mobo: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6GB/s
Processor: AMD FX-9590 8-Core
Video Card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 780ti
Memory: 2x8 (16GB) G.Skill Ripjaws
Hard Drives: Kingston SSDNow 120GB SATA III SSD
Seagate Barracuda SATA 6.0GB/s 1TB HD
Cooling: Corsair GS800 800w PSU
Coolermaster Seidon 120v
3 extra case fans

Is it possible I've got something not working right? I figured a game that is a couple years old would be able to be played at Ultra. I mean, high is great compared to my last rig, but it brings up a red flag in my head. Is there somewhere online to test what I have and make sure it's working properly? Is there a specific place in my control panel that will tell me? I'm not great with computers, but I'm not an idiot either, so if someone has a suggestion, dumb it down a little bit, but not all the way. 😉 Thanks in advance!

Just set it to ultra. It is a well known fact that games DO NOT know how to pick settings at all. ALWAYS manually change them.

This build should max any game you can throw at it.

My rig is an old i3-540 and a GTS 450 with 4GB of RAM. Its bad, and skyrim reccomends i play at high too. With AA on at like 8x. Its almsot a slideshow. So yeah I agree with Tiny, ignore those recommended settings.
