Question New build, info needed please.

I'm upgrading from my old ASUS P5Q PRO to an MSI Z170A M5 board. I'm going to go with an i7 7700k cpu and I need help in choosing my memory and graphics card.

After scouring the MSI support page I came away flustered as I'm sure their list of compatible memory is incomplete. Will this work on my Z170A board?

I'm going to run dual channel and max it out at 64gb, just because I can.

Next question is what do you all recommend for a good GPU for gaming? I mostly play GTA5 online and Destiny 2.

I'm currently running a pair of XFX Ghost HD 7850's at 4gb total memory in a crossfire setup. Would going with a 3 way crossfire with another HD7850 be a wise choice or what do you all recommend???

Is there a reason you are using older chipsets and CPUs?

As far as your GPU SLI/Crossfire is essentially dead and a single better card is a far better investment. Multi GPU support is rare in games and even rarer for it to optimized for any real performance increase.

I'm always a couple years or so behind. It's easier for me to build an older system Budget wise. I don't need the latest and greatest for what I do.

Your post mentions a buy now and buy later method. Buy 32GB now and max out at 64GB later. G.Skill does not guarantee compatibility when using multiple kits of memory.

That was my plan, to buy a 64gb kit so there wouldn't be any mismatching of ram.

64GB is overkill for a gaming machine, hell even 32GB is a bit overkill under most gaming circumstances.
As far as saving money by going with a 7th gen i7 thats debatable. I've never seen i7's even used for a particularly good price.

A new Ryzen 3600 is better then a 7700k and new is less then 200 USD, sometimes around 150USD when they are on sale, the motherboards are fairly cheap usually around 100 USD and it gives you a modern platform to upgrade on.

Yeah I know it's overkill for a gaming system but I do use it for other things such as video editing. I am rethinking my build and may just get a newer board but I really don't want to spend a ton of money on a cpu. But anything is a huge upgrade from my P5Q-Pro board with 8gb of DDR2 1066mhz and a Q9650 cpu which does the job for me but it's time to upgrade. I'm also running a Corsair 750tx psu which should be enough to run a newer system I think, or should I get an 850 watt psu?

MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Gaming GPU Overclocked Edition. $181

Plextor 1tb M.2 SSD drive. $113

Total build cost. $679

Reusing my Rosewell Thor2 tower and Corsair 750TX PSU along with my sata drives.

This system will last me a couple years and then I'll upgrade again.
