Gentlemen,

I've looked through the forums a bit but nothing is helping me. I just build my first computer with:
amd fx 8350
gigabyte radeon r9 270x
amd 990 mobo
8 Gb of ram
1 TB wd hdd
500 wat power supply

I am attempting to install windows 8.1 pro from my USB and every time it boots to the flash drive it shows the windows 8 icon and then instantly reboots. The same thing happens to my windows 7 pro installation.

I've used three different USB drives. My copy of windows is a retail copy, brand new.

I ran a ram check and it came back fine, it was running at 1600Mghz so I changed it to 1333Mghz

I do not know what to do at this point - my HDD is detected in the BIOS.

If you have the ISO file of either OS, go ahead and burn it to a disc and see if its affected there. It sounds like it may be something in the ISO you're using to create the image for the flash drive installs and its replicating over. Burning it to media and attempting it is a good way to test this.

It shouldn't be the ISO file, I've used two different operating systems. One windows 7 pro, which I used to install on my laptop - this ISO / USB drive does the same thing. It boots to the display screen of the windows icon and then restarts instantly.

The windows 8 ISO / thumb drives does the same exact thing; however, it works on my laptop. Meaning I am able to boot and "start" the installation of windows.

Go into the BIOS and change the boot order for the computer to anything other than the USB drive being the first option. Reboot and hit the key for that particular motherboard you have to go to its Boot Menu and then direct it to the USB drive.

I did exactly that and had no luck, what should my settings be?

EFI Boot is set to auto
onchip sata type "native ide"
eSata control mode - IDE
USB legacy function - enabled

amd 990 mobo

Can you provide the exact make/model of your motherboard being used? I'll be able to pull up the BIOS of it and take a look and see the actual steps of what to do. Sounds like SecureBoot is possibly off and making the system go nuts but want to be sure...

Yes sir,

I have a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3. I am currently working on flashing the bios to the most current revision.

Unfortunately the flashing utility currently has a few bugs in it, and will not allow me to flash it.

as an update I was able to flash the BIOS - the revision listed on the box is wrong. it is revision 1.1
