New build issue - dual core or i5??

ok first of all i don't overclock and i'm not a gamer... i would say (above-average home user)!!

I have an old system which is outdated so i am buying a new system..
I have a 20inch flat-screen monitor, good keyboard and mouse, and DVD/CD drive.
For my new system i already bought a new case, new hardrive, new PSU, so all i need is the MOBO, CPU, and RAM.

+1 it is a dual core not even a core 2 duo the second option will be alot better ,worth it and hell faster, try to save some cash using combos if you are shopping from newegg for ram 6GB is only for i7 because it uses triple channel while the i5 uses dual channel so 4Gb is enough,also windows 7 will be released in 22 of october so if you wanna buy it before that time get a vista 64-bit not ultimate because it is garbage get it home premium and make sure it has the free upgrade copon to windows 7

personally i was going to suggest core 2 duo they are pretty old now and its socket is outdated but it would be more than enough for you IMO and the E8400 is really great

YES your right, I got them mixed up with another post, sorry.
$63 shipped! I like the speed and voltage of these. There are many more to pick from, but these aren't too expensive and are of decent speed too. I also like the stock voltage too, so if you OC later you'll have a better chance of getting a better OC when starting from a stock voltage!!

Choice 2 is nice but wont be noticeable faster then choice on for your needs.

If I were you I would get a
Gigabyte G31M-Es2L and a celeron e3200.
The e3200 OCs to 3.6 with great temps on the stock cooler with this board.
The Pentium, and Celerons are the exact same chips as the core 2 duos, the only difference is cache, which only really makes a 5% if your a game, and your not.

Motherboard , CPU, and 4G ram is $150.

Wow with a heavy multi-tasker he's better off with the Athlon II x4 chip than the celeron. The g31 mobo, IIRC, doesn't even support PCI-e 2.0. I'm not sure the OP wants to OC, like your suggesting, so why would you suggest it, especially since s775 is dead!

what i use the pc for.. from most > Runescape, watching video online{youtube,etc.}, surfing the net, listening to music, and few small other things < to least. My current system starts to skip and lag when i try to do combo those. so i want something that can keep them all open with no lag.

The system that I detailed above will be the cheapest and best system for your needs. It INCLUDES one of the better onboard GPU's that you can get right now. Intel's versions aren't even quite up to AMD in this respect. AMD owns the onboard GPU market as far as performance. You should be able to do all of your tasks all at once with a quad CPU. Yes it's not the fastest on the planet, but for a $100 Quad CPU what can you ask for??
