Hi Guys,

I'm a bit embarrassed about my current antique set up which I build in 2007, but atleast i hope it would be entertaining? 😛 anyways, please help me pick a mid range New Build. Many Thanks!

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3 (original 2007)
CPU: E6750 2.66g (original 2007)
RAM: 2x1g DDR2 (original 2007) 2x2G Hyper Fury DDR2(retired gift from friend)
PSU: Antec 750w (replaced in 2013)
GPU: Ati 5770 HD 1G DDR5
HDD: 3.5" WD 250g 7200rpm (original 2007) + 2.5" SanDisk 120g SSD (addition 2015)

Why Are You Upgrading: I've been given a R9 270oc (Gigabyte), and Skylake is out, so Finally, i think it's time to assemble a new rig.

Approximate Purchase Date: This long weekend holiday, there's a PDF price list below showing all parts available in my local store, please help me narrow them down.
Budget Range: 700(ideal)-900(max)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 50%Gaming, 40%media consumption, 10% Adobe
Are you buying a monitor: Nope. I'll pair the new Tower to my Asus 24" with the R9 270, and hook my retired machine to the TV with a 19" Acer on the side.

Do you need to buy OS: Yep. I upgraded to win 10, so the SSD can't move away.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: MSY sydney NSW, it's got 2 stores within 20mins drive, please see their price PDF linked below, I hope to assemble this over the long weekend Holiday, atleast the base components anyways, so new egg is only good for later upgrades etc.

Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia.

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, ATI Cards, brands whichever available and good value.

Overclocking: Nope. I think my machine lasted 8 yrs because I run at stock speed, and clean often(by that I mean yearly, lol)

SLI or Crossfire: Nope.

Additional Comments: I wanted to build a Skylake with DD4, but my friend who gave me the 270 and old ram suggests it's not a bad idea to buy higher end 1150 coz Skylake isn't game changing, and even my first gen Core Duo lasted me this long. Many Many Thanks Guys!

Either Skylake or Haswell should be fine, both vaguely similar per Ghz in gaming performance.

Considering the prices of that store though, I'd go with the older i5-4460. I'd get the ASUS H81M-E motherboard but make sure the store update the BIOS before sending it out to ensure it is compatible. I'd go for the 2x4GB Patriot signature DDR3 1333Mhz and the Antec VP 500W PSU. They should give you great performance at a low price.

Thanks so much for your reply. 😀
I was very excited while waiting for sky lakes release. But when all the 4th gen components pretty much sold out in stores around me, i couldn't help but suspect people are snatching up 1150+ddr3 because the price difference means a higher end set up that's proven to be powerful and stable, yet with long enough life span left in haswell to see the machine comfortably through till the next big upgrade.
So I took the store tech's advice and went with Xeon E3, instead of a i5 6500 and still few bucks cheaper lol.
We did a build comparison with net prices, And I'm very happy with the system I bought. :)
many thanks for your help!
