Hey guys, my last desktop PC i built was stolen from my car. So, i have been out of pc gaming for 6 months now. Ive got some money and time to finally build a new system. My last cpu was a 3570k @ 4.6ghz, intel extreme board dz77, 8gb 1866mhz ram, hd 7770 vga, h60, push pull. Standard hdd. 5400Rpm

It was pretty fast! But, it lacked in hdd performance, and graphics performance.

My new build is this, I am planning to buy next month. All help is much appreciated! !

Intel i7 4770k Quad Core $340
Asus Maximus VI Mini itx $229
2X8GB Team xtreem 2400 $143
Seasonic-SS 660xp2 psu $139
Bitfenix Prodigy $70
H80 Push Pull cooler $80
Galaxy HOF GTX 780 3Gb, $680
LG Blu-Ray drive $50
Corsair GTX SSD 240GB $200

Im going to put fresh AS5 on the CPU, and the video card.

I will be overclocking.

I want to run everything maxed out.

Im torn on the video cards. A gtx 780, or AMD 7990 for $619 with 8 free games.

I can live with micro stutter.

Thanks for all replies, and suggestions!

For gaming you don't need a motherboard that expensive, nor do you need an i7 and RAM that fast. Most of the components you're suggesting are from off brands that are not known for quality - especially the RAM and GPU. The PSU is a solid choice though. There's also better SSDs that you can get and I would omit the BD-R drive unless you need it for backups. As far as the 7990 goes, I'm indifferent on the card. You definitely cannot argue with free games, but the 7990 at least in the past has had issues with micro stuttering due to the AMD drivers, but supposedly those have been cleared up with Catalyst 13.9. Oh and Arctic Silver 5 is a gigantic waste of money, especially if you plan to use a liquid cooling setup. All liquid coolers come...

All liquid coolers come with their own thermal compound that's made specially for that unit and you don't want to mix and match or it will not end well.

I would do something like this:

Thanks! One thing, how come the eVGA GTX 780 does not have 2x 8 pin? Doesnt this provide more power for better overclocking? The classified, Galaxy, and all msi's have 2x 8 pins

And the blu ray was for renting red box movies lol.

Although downloading them works to.

My real main concern is getting a 4670k or 4770k.

I love the 8 threads idea, and HT really works. I just cannot seem to justify the price, or if the 4670k is going to make me happy and regret not getting the 4770k in the future.

My 3570k was [removed] fast at 4.6, i just cant imagine the 4770k lol

Is it worth the 340 price tag?

Build this with Fractal Node 304 or CM 130

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-case-rc120akkn1
Fractal. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcanode304bl
I think there is coming out soon mATX case from fractal or BitFenix.
Cant remember was it one or ither.
It was Bit Fenix. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7219/bitfenix-announces-the-prodigy-m-case-a-prodigy-for-matx

Anyway. Look mATX case too. Corsair 350D is nice case.
Fractal do have nice mATX case too.
Bigger 256GB SSD is better buy. Same thing with HDD 3TB seagate is good buy.
Small case is not so good for OC. And it do not make much benefit to FPS.
Look cheap GTX 680 cardslike this. If you olay 1080p it is same if you have 780 or 680.

And I wont tell you nothing about xeon perfprmance because you want OC 😀
And how cool it is when you put 100% load on cpu 😀
Juust look this video and figure out

The Gigabyte and Galaxy cards require more power because they have larger fans. The EVGA card doesn't have the giant cooler so you don't really need to have the extra power.

And the blu ray was for renting red box movies lol.

BD-R playback on PC is a nice idea but really it's not as practical as it sounds. The playback software is not included and can get quite pricey.

Although downloading them works to.

As long as you're downloading them from legal sites like iTunes, Netflix, Flixster, Hulu, etc.

Having the extra threads works great if you're going to be doing things with your rig besides gaming - especially Photoshop, CAD, or other CS5 or photo/video editing programs. Otherwise it's not necessary.

Well I have a 3570K and it is a great CPU, there's no reason to get a i7 for that purpose.

You have not tryed xeon so you do not know! 😀
Can you really argue with this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcB1BIyJ5j8
Or with this. Stock intel cpu cooler intel burn test.

Are you sure about this?? I think you have not proved that 3570k is so great cpu :)
I7 and xeon do have something that i5 do not have.
