Hi everyone,

This will be my third build to date (in two years). First one was mine and second was for someone else. This one has a plethora of blue LED fans so that is why I call it "My Blue Heaven"... Here are the specs (already purchased). I can always reorder and return parts (not built yet) so anything wrong please advise.

Also, I am looking at air cooling this time and not planning on overclocking, but I want the option to test the air cooling potential of the NH U12S. From previous experience with my i7 3770K, it ran hot so I assume this one will too so I went with an aftermarket cooler. If I need a liquid cooler, I will put in an H100i later.

I suppose this isn't what some would want in theirs, but is what I went with as a fairly new builder.

Votes for yay or nay accepted graciously. 🙂

I like it! I would personally trim down the power supply to a bronze and a little cheaper mobo and case to make room for a better video card but i doubt you one you selected would disappoint.

Really just one question, why not Windows 8.1?

The only reason I went with Windows 7 is because it's what I'm used to. I don't see much advantage in it, but then again, I'm not looking very hard either. I have Windows 8 on my laptop and I just like going straight to the desktop instead of a start screen. Is there a particular advantage to it I'm not thinking of?

Well, it does give slightly better performance and carries a much better driver solution along with all the latest features of Microsoft and will have support for a longer period of time.
There is more but really 7 is just a dieing breed.
I had to get use to the start menu too but now I would not go back, it really is just more.

Do you know about UEFI installation? if not you should search legacy vs. UEFI.

Yes, I've heard of UEFI and have it on my MSI mobo. It seems pretty straightforward. I'm reading the entire mobo manual right now to ensure I know the appropriate things. I did have a RAM compatibility question though into ASUS and they said the RAM I chose was not actually tested but in theory it will work. G.Skill has it listed as will work. I emailed G.Skill to ask them if they will ensure it will work... Haven't heard back yet.

But yes, I'm aware of the UEFI. I will research more on it though. Thanks for the tips.

You could have done it like this,
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wFdyqs

Maybe some things in it that you like.
Maybe the blue led pwm fans for on the cpu cooler,
maybe the blue motherboard->good enough to test that cpu/cooler,
maybe the fancontroller, look at some reviews about that one,it seems to be a good one but i don't know it.With six fans does it seem necessary.

Dude, never cheap out on the PSU or mobo! The mobo determines your future upgrades and the PSU is what powers the entire system.

I would definitely get a full tower case that has a VGA side panel fan option to keep your GPU cool. If not, it will throttle itself down and heat up your entire system. In addition, a full tower case will allow plenty of room for upgrades.

Also, DO NOT get Kingston SSD! They are that cheap for a reason! Get a Samsung 840 Pro Evo or an Cosair SSD! Look at reviews and specs for Kingston vs. Samsung SSD and you will see.

Further, if you have an SSD, the hybrid drive is pointless. You can get a 2TB HDD for the same price.

Regarding air cooling, the best on the market is the Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212. I have one on my FX-8350 and it does not get hotter than 42 c on Prime 95! Speaking from my experience so I hope it helps!

Wow, quality has everything to do with how much power is supplied and wasted by PSU. Bronze is only 80% efficient, while Gold is 92% efficient. You will not get the consistent power with a PSU that is only putting out good, clean and consistent power 80% of the time. As opposed to a PSU that is putting out good, clean and consistent power 92% of time.

In any rate, the consumer decides.

You should really do some research on what the different Intel motherboards offer and about your concerned upgrade path titan.
You claim efficiency and have a 8350.
Your Prime temp I can only assume that it is a lie with no screen shots or you need to double check your temps with a different program.
Nvidia video cards run much cooler on average than AMD.
There is much debate over side fans being useless with proper case airflow and really mostly depends on the specific case and its pressurization.

I just looked at Hardocp review and it (Noctua) had trouble with the overclocking of the i7 4770K. They never mentioned the Hyper 212 EVO though.

Question: Should I just get the H100i or will the EVO do the job just as well? Keep in mind I need a cooler that is 6.2” or 160mm tall or less or the liquid cooling option.

Titan,

I’ll return the SSD and get the Samsung that’s on sale at newegg. As far as the case, I have a midsize (Corsair C70) and want a smaller case that has a full window and room for an H100i if needed. I took out the upper two SSD drive bays and now there’s a straight shot of air on the GPU. If that doesn’t work, maybe I’ll mod the window with a hole, a fan, and a grill. Time will tell but I think it will do fine. The hyper 212 EVO is good but what I saw on comparison charts the Noctua is good too.

I am not changing my mind on the psu as it’s only about $15 more than a good bronze Seasonic of XFX.

Vic,

The six fans does seem unnecessary but I like lots of xmas lights to blind the neighbors at Xmas time too. I may need a fan controller and I will probably from reading the reviews. I’d like to see for myself for my own education of course and keep the nzxt controller in mind. I thank you for mentioning it otherwise I might not have paid much attention to it. I like the mobo because of all the fan headers but also because of military grade components too.

Iron8orn,

I can return Win 7; I might get used to Win 8…  Thanks to all who responded!!!
Sorry for the late reply but remodeling going on today and I had to power down the modem due to painting.

I hope to keep everyone updated but remodel is till end of the week. It will allow me time to get a new SSD though.
