Hi all.

I am helping my friend to build a new system. As you can see from the choice of the graphics card he couldnt care less for games. He needs a system that he will keep for 5 to 6 years.

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated

Case Aerocool Quartz Pro (he wants a full tower with a tempered glass if you want to suggest something else)

Psu Corsair HXi Series HX750i

Cpu cooler Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 ( i am thinking Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 as an alternative and i read very good things for Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT)

ssd Samsung 850 Evo 250GB

Ram G.Skill Sniper X Urban Camo 32GB DDR4-3600MHz (F4-3600C19D-32GSXW)

hdd Toshiba DT01ACA300 3TB

Cpu will (probably) be ryzen 2700x

and motherboard will be a high end x470 model ( if we go the amd way)

graphics card Gigabyte GeForce GTX1050 2GB Windforce OC (GV-N1050WF2OC-2GD)

The total budget must not exceed 1700 euros and all the parts will be purchased from Greece (unless we can find something you suggest elsewhere consiredably cheaper)

Thanks in advance and sorry for the wall of text.

I will pick 1700/2700 over 1700X for cheaper and decent stock cooler, can be easily oced to 1700X/2700X level or better. If your friend wants heavy ocing, get 1700X and the cooler above :) 3200 ram is good enough, 3600 has little to none benefit compared to 3200. Aerocool quality is not that great.

I'm speaking off the top of my head here but I know that the prices aren't what most people see here in other parts of the world when compared to Greece. I know that you have to deal with limited options as well.

I'd suggest a Be Quiet! cooling solution as well. As for the case, you could look into Phanteks Enthoo series but is he sure he wants a full tower? You could easily go for a smaller form factor. Seeing how the X470 isn't yet out in full swing, I'd suggest you wait a few more weeks or months at the latest before finalizing the AMD build.

If you go for Intel then you can go with an i5-K Z370 DDR4-3200MHz kit on a smaller form factor.

I will pay close attention to the reviews of ryzen 2700x and x470 mobos. Thanks for that.

I thought of ryzens 8 cores/16 threads combination for future proofing.

I am currently waiting for my friend to answer vapour 's question.Sorry for posting a thread without including the main usage for the build

Agreed, I am going to use a greece website to build for OP.

Thanks a lot for the input.I have some questions.

1) Will a 550w psu be enough for future proofing?

2) If at some point in the future he decides to do some serious oc, which cpu cooler would you recommend?Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4? Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3?Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT or something else?

3) If at some point in the future he decides to do some serious oc will such a cheap mobo be sufficient? Will it be good for future proofing?

Here is the list:

CPU : AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (€250)
CPU Cooler : Cryorig H5 Universal (€35)
Motherboard : ASUS ROG Strix B350-F Gaming (€110)
RAM : G.Skill RipjawsV 32GB DDR4-3200MHz (€330)
GPU : Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1080 8GB (€620)
SSD : SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB (€125)
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM (€80)
PSU : Corsair TX650M (€75)
Case : Phanteks Enthoo Pro (€100)

Total : €1725

If you utilize your full budget then this is what you get. This R7 1700 and GTX1080 combo is nearly 250-300% better in performance compared to R7 1700 and GTX1050Ti combo. That is extremely huge gain of performance per buck as overall you are only spending 25-30% more to get that.
