New Build need advice/recommendations

Jul 24, 2012
I am thinking about building a new PC to replace my old one from 2009.
Here is my old PC:

6GB DDR2 RAM PC2-5300 RAM, Ati HD5770, Q9300 core 2 quad, Windows 7.

Approximate Purchase Date: 1 month from now.

Budget Range: (e.g.: 300-400) Before / After Rebates; Before / After Shipping: $500 USD including shipping.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 1. Gaming. 2. Movies.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: (e.g.: CPU, mobo, RAM) **Include Power Supply Make & Model If Re-using**

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, TigerDirect, or any other sites that you find trustworthy.

Location: City, State/Region, Country - USA-Illinois.

Parts Preferences: I for sure want a motherboard that has USB 3.0 and an Intel Core i5-3570K.

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: Already have one.

Additional Comments: (e.g.: Need to have a window and lots of bling, I would like a quiet PC. Please also list specific software or games you're using)

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: (e.g. I'm having trouble running game X or my PSU broke)

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts. Please do not post only links:

I am going to keep my old videocard: Radeon HD 5770, hard drive, and power supply, 650W, keyboard, monitor, mouse, and DVD drive.

Here is what I am looking for:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K for sure.

I need some suggestions for DDR3 RAM, a motherboard that supports USB 3.0 and the i5 3570K, as well as an ATX case.

Here is the CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K

For the RAM any brand will do as long as it is DDR3 and at least 1333 speed. 8GB min.

The motherboard needs to be capable of USB 3.0 and support the i5 3570K CPU.

Would this work for the motherboard? GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

The case can be anything.

Also on a related note I see some LGA 1155 motherboards say it supports 2nd generation intel CPUS. Will they also work with the 3rd generation CPUs too?

Thank you very much!

well, if you keep your GPU, you won't see a lot of performance gain in games.

yes that motherboard is fine. and as long as the LGA 1155 board has a H61, H67, P67, or Z68 chipset, it will support ivy bridge.

^ Thanks. For the most part I am happy with the performance of the HD5770.. That LGA 1155 info is REALLY good to hear though.

Another question is that is there any website's where you can test the compatibility of different parts? Like a virtual computer builder site?
