It's been about 2.5 years since I built my last system. Only upgrade I did was a Samsung 2TB M.2 HDD which I will carry over to my new system.

Current:
i7-6700k @ 4.5 Ghz
Asus GTX1080
Asus Z170 Deluxe
Asus DDR4 3200 64GB (2 x 32)

My main use for my PC is simming on P3D which is a CPU killer. I do play the mainstream titles as well, but they are not my focus. I am Asus / Corsair loyal as my last few builds have been this way and I have have zero issues.

This time around and am so confused on motherboard and video card choices as there are so many version of each!

Can anyone provide some input on this build?

Here is what I am thinking for my new build:
CPU: Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair - H115i RGB PLATINUM 97 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus - ROG MAXIMUS XI FORMULA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Video Card: Asus - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB ROG Strix Gaming Video Card
Case: Corsair - Obsidian 500D RGB SE ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair - 850 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Wait just a bit longer if you can. CES is Monday and there could be a massive shift that makes the 9900k completely irrelevant if some leaks are true. If I had a functional system I wouldn't consider building anything until after CES concludeds and we know what AMD has up it's sleeve

Noted. I was just doing this for the complete RGB for the slots but just saw corsair makes dummy ram for this haha.

So, I'll go with 2 x16 plus 2 dummy RGB sticks

I've just watched a bunch of benchmark videos on youtube that compare the 6700k to 9900k (and others) and the performance improvements aren't incredibly impressive. I know all tests are very subjective but jut looking at the delta between 6700k and 9900k seem to be in the 10% range.....

As I mentioned, I am P3D focused.... in extreme scenarios with high-end add ons, I can see FPS as low as 12 - 15 with my current setup. This is common in P3D --- obviously different that the 100+ FPS that can be seem in todays modern games.

If I was to be told that I could see a 10% increase on a 15 FPS scenario, I'd say it's not worth it. Even on 30 FPS.... now 33 FPS? Not worth it.

Am I missing something? I don't think I am as I have been a user of FSX - P3D for over a decade and know it's limitations and extreme reliance on CPU.

Assume this is in the CFG file?

Thanks. I've know about this for a while but never done it. made about a 1 - 2 FPS difference in an extreme FPS environment (max scenery, aircraft, weather, etc)

My concern is, even with a 9900k and 2080ti, would it be worth it over my current setup? I love building new computers but the performance gains I've seen on youtube aren't exactly game changing.
