Just recently (today, in fact), I finished building my first custom PC. However, when I hooked it up to a monitor using a motherboard vga connection (the only monitors I have access to currently) the screen remained black. The computer turned on, motherboard green-lit and power LED's were on, but there was no display.

I just plugged it into my TV using an HDMI from my graphics card now instead of through the motherboard. The image displayed, but now it's telling me I'm missing the bootmgr. There is no BIOS menu.

For record, at no point has my computer beeped and I feel as though I may not have plugged in my audio connection right, but I see no way to fix it.

EDIT: So, aside from still not hearing any beeps, I figured out my issue. I just needed to press a button. However, upon getting to the boot menu, I may accidentally pressed a thing and overheated my cpu.

Solution
So first of all, the motherboard ports do not work when you have a graphics card plugged in. You have to use the ports on your graphics card

No Bootmgr is after the bios.

Press ctrl+alt+delete and you should see a bios splash screen right at the beginning.
If you dont then it is because your TV over HDMI is taking a couple extra seconds and so the screen already goes away.
Lookup in your motherboard what key allows you to enter bios (usually F2 or DEL), and start pressing it as soon as it starts to reboot.
