Hi! I have a new build that isn't detecting my SATA optical DVD drive. I've tried various configurations of IDE and AHCI in the BIOS. I have the drive hooked up to port 5 of the Motherboard which is eSATA, and the manual says to hook optical drives for (Windows) installation here.

I have a Lubuntu disk that I'm trying to use, but it's not detecting on the USB drives or the optical drive at all (USB drives are all enabled in the BIOS). I only got a USB response when I flashed the BIOS to update it in the special USB flash port. I put Lubuntu on a flash drive and tried it there just for kicks, and got some command output, but it stalled it out and left me with nothing to do but a reset.

Case: ThermalTake Commander series (Snow edition)
Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X PRO R2.0
CPU: AMD 6300FX 3.5GHz
DVD Drive: Lite-On IT Corp, Feb 2009, model iHAS124-14 EU
Power supply: Antec 550W
Graphics card: EVGA GeForce GT 730
Hard Drive: Corsair ForceLX SSD 256GB (SATA3)
RAM: Patriot Viper 3, 8GB (2x4GB) 2133 MHz (note that this clocks at 1600MHz in the BIOS, not sure why) (plugged into slots 0 and 1, closest to the CPU)
CPU Fan: Antec, this was used in place of the lame one that came with the motherboard.

Thanks guys!

install the drive to a regular SATA port .
The SSD to the lowest numbered port . The dvd to the next lowest

The RAM should be in color coded slots . Use both black slots to get dual channel
The speed will be failsafe speed and you will have to try and get the full 2133Mhz after installing windows . Dont be at all surprised if you cant

Thanks for your input T, interesting experiment! I put the RAM in the two black slots (positions 1 and 3) and the mobo did not like that at all. The DRAM LED was red and the computer was unresponsive. I put the RAM back into slots 1 and 2 (black and blue) and it would at least let me get into the BIOS.

The SSD is in port 1, and the DVD drive is now in port 2. Same response, the computer tells me to insert bootable media and to press any key. The DVD drive is still not recognized in the BIOS.

Also, any thoughts on the lack of USB response? I was trying to get the DVD drive to respond first and check the USB ports via the OS, but I seem to have two shut doors between each issue.

I haven't tried it with any other OS, actually, presuming that if the DVD drive wasn't acknowledge by the BIOS then it wouldn't matter. I don't have a Windows DVD, but surely a motherboard wouldn't only be compatible with Windows OS.

In any case, I'll give it a try with another boot disk later today and get back to you. Thanks again for your time and input!
