New Build Not Outputting HDMI To Monitor

Hey guys, so recently I built a PC. However, when I came to plug in the monitor, it only had a vga port, while my pc does not. So I pulled out one of my own HDMI cables to connect them. However, when u plug the HDMI into the monitor to the GPU, it says no signal. I have established that the monitor HDMI and VGA works. My pc has DVI ports and HDMI ports.

Did you use the monitors menu/buttons to change the input to HDMI from vga?
