Hello guys,
I just purchased components to build a new computer from Newegg and spent the last two days putting my new computer together. It's a medium-to-high end ($1,500) gaming/3D modeling PC with an Asrock P67 Extreme 4 Motherboard, Intel i7 2600k CPU, 16gigs Coarsair Vengeance RAM, and 800 watt gold power supply. I used this site's great forum to select the parts (thank you) but now I need your help again.

Yesterday I finished the computer and everything worked flawlessly on the first try: it booted up right away and I installed windows etc. I then spent a few hours on cable management and adding the few things that I skipped over while putting it together. Today I went to test it out and it seems to be completely dead: when the power button it pushed, a slight clinking or almost crackling sound can be heard, but the is no other activity, no lights, fans, or anything. My motherboard has a power button built in, and trying that has identical effects as the chassis power button.

I first assumed that some cable must have come loose, so I checked and rechecked everything, but that had no effect. I then spent about 2 hours taking the whole thing apart and completely rebuilding it, but when I plugged it in, it was exactly as before, just a faint sound and nothing else.

I assume that some part has died, from static electricity or whatever. I am guessing it is either the power supply or the motherboard, but I need help determining what it is. Does this sound like a power supple problem or a motherboard problem or something else? Any ideas are great, I'm kinda freaking out here. Thanks in advance!

Alright, so I'm new to building, but a lot of us are on this forum, so maybe my mistake will be able to help someone else in the future. I preemptively apologize for my lack of technical jargon in this post.

I used a power cable to connect all my case fans to my Power Supply (molex I believe), it was a cable with several connectors, and at the end of it there was a 4 pin plug. I connected all of my fans, and assumed that the 4-pin plug was supposed to attach to my motherboard next to where my CPU cooler fan plugged in. I thought that this would allow my motherboard to recognize the Case fans and adjust them to maintain proper temperatures, but for some reason this caused the unwanted effects.

Am I supposed to connect this 4-pin plug there? Did I perhaps just install in backwards? I've been too nervous to attempt to plug it in again, especially since everything seems to be running just fine with it unplugged. What do you guys think?
