Hi whenever I turn on my new build I am greeted by the message -

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

The only way i have found to prevent this is unplugging all 3 of my SATA connections, to the following:
a 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD
a 1TB Caviar Green HDD
a LiteOn iHAS224 optical drive

which then allows me into the Asus BIOS. I am using an Asus P8Z68-V PRO motherboard with Intel i7 2600k and G-Skill Ripjaws RAM

Any suggestions as to what's going on?

Solution
In that case try just the SSD on 6GB/s port 0 and DVD drive on 3GB/s port 0.
Boot with the OS disk in the DVD and start a format/install on the SSD.
If you get a successful OS install, add the HDD on 3GB/s port 1 and format.

Hi the SATA mode is definitely set to AHCI. I initially powered up with all 3 devices plugged in but have since tried each one in each of the MBs 8 sata connectors with no joy. One time the message didnt show and I got to the BIOS with only the Western Digital HDD plugged in but I have tried since and it will not happen again even plugged into the same connector.

At first I had HDD & SSD attached to intel 6.0 GB/s connectors and DVD drive attached to intel 3.0 GB/s connector. I have since tried each device in each type of SATA connector - the intel 6.0 and 3.0 as well as the 2 Marvell 6.0 GB/s connectors

not been able to format SSD/HDD yet
