I got my components today and this is my first build and I'm using old parts I had from my previous computer. I replaced my psu and gpu on my prebuilt pc so I assumed I had enough know how to at least get me somewhere, but I was wrong. Got everything neat and tidy, but pic won't boot. Now when I say boot I mean post, but the mobo is receiving power as the LED light is on no matter what. When I hit the power button the cpu fan will work for one second and stop. You can hear a click sound when you hit the power button as if something started and stopped. I tried the power button on my mobo and same results. The psu worked fine in my previous computer so I don't believe it could be that the psu is bad. It's a 750w Roswill 12v.
Other parts: i7 4790k, Msi HD 7850, Kingston 8gb 1866 ram, 1tb wd HDD, dvd optical drive, Asus z97- A

Solution
1. if its 2 x 4gb RAM try boot with 1 x 4gb ram.(try each ram once) . and see its booting.

2. if your friend using any PC, try taking components only. or at least only RAM. except mobo. and check their if its working.

my doubt is RAM can be a DOA. if that also works. you can conform that, mother board is fault.

also some of the PSU's are not compatible with haswell processor you checked for it?

Update: I took the mobo out of the case and made sure everything was secure. I eventually got it to stay on as in all the fans are running and what not, but now it won't post still because the DRAM led light is red. Please help.

Solution
It was the motherboard. The mother board was missing a pin. Newegg let me switch it out for another mother board and everything works great now! Thanks for the possible solutions though!
