Hello Everyone,

I currently have the i7 920 (@2.67Ghz) with P6T Motherboard and GT9400 Graphics Card... I have been editing videos with Cyberlink PowerDirector 14 in 720p and the computer struggles with processing video (looks choppy)...

I wanted to upgrade the graphics card and overclock the CPU to 3.2Ghz but have been thinking about just upgrading the whole setup.

Here are the parts that I am looking at for this build and would like to get any insight on what I should get to be able to edit videos in 1080p without the choppiness.

I plan on buying the following:

  • - Intel Core i5-7600K LGA 1151
    - ASUS PRIME Z270-A LGA1151 DDR4 DP HDMI DVI M.2 USB 3.1 Z270 ATX Motherboard
    - EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 3GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Cards 03G-P4-6160-KR
    - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 Desktop Memory Model F4-2666C15D-16GVR
    - Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Internal Desktop Hard Drive - WD2002FAEX
Going to reuse the 600w Power Supply, Cooling Fans and the Case.

Thank You

That's a pretty long stretch for any power supply, much less one made for OCZ by Sirtec, as that one was. Not 100% certain of their track record on the ModXstream Pro units but I know they've got a pretty terrible history around that time for some poorly built platforms.

If you upgrade, I would 100% plan on including a high quality power supply that's capable of supporting that card.

Honestly, if you plan on editing 1080p video to any serious extent, upgrading is probably a foregone conclusion. Your current card has about half the VRAM that Cyberlink recommends when using Powerdirector 14, although it certainly has more than the bare minimum required.

Also, and I don't know if this applies to you or not, but Cyberlink indicates the...
What is the brand and model number of your current power supply? How old is it?

How much memory is currently installed?

Honestly, I think your main problem is most likely the card but of course the entire system is pretty dated, so it could honestly be almost anything including a drive issue or a gasping power supply.

Thanks for the quick reply. I currently have Corsair Vengeance 24gb (6x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz and the Power Supply is OCZ MODXSTREAM-PRO.

The whole computer was built in 2008 or 2009 from what I remember.

Thanks again for the help.

PLEASE NOTE: For users of NVIDIA cards using pre-Kepler architecture who have updated to graphics driver 340.43 or later, the CUDA video hardware video encoder feature in PowerDirector is no longer available. To re-enable hardware acceleration, please download and install an earlier driver.
