1st problem
Voltage regulators seem to run hot (as high as 90C)

2nd problem
System consistently fails when trying to load OS.
Tried Latest Ubuntu and Windows 7.
In both cases it seems to start ok, then after a few minutes it just seems to slow down then stop.

For example, the items going to the display take longer and longer to render....like the first part of a "window" will appear, then after a while the next......and so forth.......As if I have virtually no computing power....like it's running a CPU from 1998

As if the computer is drunk and dozes off to sleep....no errors....no BSOD, nothing....it just sits there as if it's waiting on something.....forever....

Keep in mind that the CPU gets COLDER during this time....not hotter......in fact the voltage regulators AND the CPU seem to just go cold. As if it went to sleep in the middle of beginning the install of the OS to the hard drive.

Im going to monitor the CPU and voltage regulator temps and try again to see if maybe the CPU is maybe overheating and then the system powers back due to that.

I've never seen this odd behavior in a computer.

SO I went back and tried to install the OS again and this time I constantly monitored the temp at the CPU and the voltage regulators.....

Here is the BIZARRE results......

Immediately upon initiating installation of the OS......the temperature of the CPU AND voltage regulators DROPS significantly. From around 70C to around 40C Temperature.

What on Earth could be going on for this to happen.

Note that at NO POINT do temps rise. Temps before attempting install of the OS are CPU - 65C

It's as if the system simply decides it doesn't want to install an OS?

Has anyone ever heard of such strange behavior?

If you look next to the listing of components at the top, I did mention it. Since it appears from your avatar that you like cats, I'll overlook the sarcasm.

For anyone who comes along later with this same problem......

Interesting to note that the CPU is still processing....and the installation is proceeding....at the speed of snail.....

The Installation process is still moving forward.....but at the pace I would expect of an 8088 processor from the 1980's

It would probably take several weeks for the OS install to complete at this pace.

From bad to worse.......

Update the BIOS......

Now it shoots to over 80 C so fast I have to shut it off.

Went from P3.00 to P3.40

A320M-DGS

I don't usually have so much trouble with a new system. Have built dozens

Roller Coaster ride......
FYI....

P3.40 is recommended BEFORE updating to the latest BIOS (P4.40)

So after the last update that made the temps soar over 81C......I said what the heck and updated to P4.40

I have NO CLUE why, but now temps are cooler than ever.....stabilized at 59.5C

When I take the temp of the CPU and voltage regulators, they are in fact cooler. Fan speeds have not changed.
I have no idea on Earth how a BIOS update could make temps go from over 80C to under 60C

The MB is also running cooler.

Now to see if by any chance these BIOS changes will allow me in install an OS

Apparently, while it appears I'm making slight progress because temps are now normal and far better than before......but I still can get no joy installing an OS. The system comes to a crawl. No idea why.

Just tried a different Hard Drive. No Change

About to try a completely different OS install.....to rule out bad DVD copy or problem with that particular OS and my system
