New build startup problem- random MB freezes

This is not a POST issue; the system POSTs fine and there is a display output to the monitor, at least at first there is.

After startup, the BIOS does its usual thing, checking all the SATA devices and USB devices, at which point (sometimes earlier) the screen will either freeze or go blank, and an LED labelled CATT_ERRLED1 lights up on the motherboard.

According to the manual, this means "The system has experienced a fatal or catastrophic error and cannot continue to operate". It happens at random points during startup (no OS yet as I haven't gotten to that point), and the number on the Q-code display is random as well each time it freezes. I've had B4, B2, AF, and 00 all come up.

Before asking: Yes, I plugged in the ATX12V connector. Yes, the CPU coolers are both seated properly and have plenty of thermal paste on them. Yes, the RAM sticks are installed in the correct slots for the Intel setup. I don't think this is a problem with a CPU or RAM stick because it POSTs successfully and then freezes shortly afterwards.

An option would be testing with each CPU separately, to see if same issue occurs.
