Hi guys,

Old motherboard died (for 3570K), so I'm looking for a new CPU/Mobo/RAM combination. Currently seeing the 1700X at Microcenter for $139, so that's looking tempting. Also looking for a new case since old system was mini-ITX and frankly I hate the Bitfenix Prodigy case.

Currently thinking:
CPU - Ryzen 1700X ($140)
RAM - Cheapest 2x8GB DDR4 ($100?)
Cooler - DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 300 ($20)
Motherboard - MSI B450M Gaming Plus ($40)
Case - Inwin 301 ($70)

Mosting going to be gaming. I understand single-thread performance is most important then, so either a 2600 or an Intel CPU would be better. But also want to do some streaming and deep-learning on my PC. Since I don't have an Nvidia GPU, I'll need to use my CPU. For streaming it seems like even 4C/8T is enough usually, so the 2600 would be fine, but for deep-learning the 2 extra cores will be nice. For RAM does it matter what speed I choose?

I'm running a 1700x myself. It games just fine, and can be overclocked. I'm running mine stock at the moment. Ryzen loves fast memory, so if you can get 3000 speed or better, that would be good. My plan is run the 1700z and maybe when they bring out the 4000 series, upgrade then to a newer cpu.

For case, that's an ok case. Look at the cooler master masterbox mb511. That's the case I have, it can hold 6 fans, so I did 6 led fans and like the look pretty well. And the case I think is around 50.

Give the stock AMD heatsink a try first. It's quite good and the Gammax isn't great.

You can game stream with AMD GPUs. AMD Re-Live

DDR4-3000. 2x8GB = $95-$110

Just an FYI, AMD 7nm 3xxx CPUs are supposedly launching at CES in January.

Thanks for the info about 7nm AMD. Should I wait for them? Ryzen 2 brought only minor IPC and memory controller improvements to Ryzen 1 (on the order of 5-10%). Is Ryzen 3 expected to be a major change?

Someone mentioned that the 1700X at Microcenter: https://www.microcenter.com/product/485473/ryzen-7-1700x-34-ghz-8-core-am4-boxed-processor
comes without a boxed HSF.

Are there any particular motherboards you guys recommend? Anything I should watch out for?

As far as I know, the 1700x does not include a heatsink. Mine did not.

Now as far as the new ryzen, so the ryzen 2000 series processor from what was said, were "ryzen +". So they were just a refinement of the 1st generation ryzen chips.

Ryzen 3000 series is actually supposed to be "zen 2" or "ryzen 2" if you will. So it's supposed to be actually I guess a redesign. Ryzen + went from 14nm to 12nm. Ryzen 2 will go from 12nm to 7nm.

Supposedly, the ryzen 3 series will be 6 core, 12 threads. Ryzen 5, 8 cores 16 threads. I think some of the ryzen 7, 12 cores, 24 threads. Then they are introducing ryzen 9 which is more comparable to current threadripper I think.

According to rumors some of these CPUs may reach 4.8-5ghz as well.

Keep in mind, a lot of the rumors may just be speculation, but if part of it is true, might be worth waiting.

Check YouTube also. Some guys on there were talking about it as well.
