New Build - System doesn't recognise all RAM

Hi,

I have just completed my new build and I'm having a little trouble regarding the RAM. I have installed 8gb however the system says that 7.47GB is useable. Is this normal? I have used the RAM from another machine which was in full working order before it was removed.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Need some more info please.
Operating system and Motherboard, brand of ram, CPU and if you have a video card.

Are you using the built in video from the CPU? If so, it reserves part of the system RAM so it can use it as Video RAM. Usually that is where you see this.

Sure.

The RAM is GeIL Enhance Corsa 8GB, Motherboard MSI FM2-A55M-E33 and the CPU is an AMD A10 5800k.

I'm not using a graphics card, I am using the inbuilt graphics from the cpu only, is this why?

Yep, that is probably why. Get a discreet Video Card and you should see all 8 gigs

Yes, the AMD A10 does not have video RAM of its own, so it "steals" some of your system RAM to operate. So this is what you should see. And you won't notice a general system performance difference from having 7.5 vs 8GB of RAM.
