Hi All,

I tried to power on my build for the first time. It briefly started (for about 1 sec) and turned off. Now it will not boot up at all. While the PSU is on, the motherboard has 1 red light on. Aside from that when I press the power button on the case nothing happens.

CPU [i5-6600k]
CPU Cooler [Corsair H60]
Motherboard [MSI Z170A Gaming M5
RAM [Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4-2133]
SSD [Samsung EVO 250GB]
HDD [WD Caviar Blue 1TB]
GPU [MSI R9 390] **( not installed at this point in the build)
Case [Corsair SPEC-3]
PSU [EVGA G2 750W]

I have read http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

This is what I have crossed off my checklist:

1. Made sure the the 4/8 pin CPU power connector was plugged it. (On the 1st try this was not plugged in.) I went back, plugged it in, tried to boot again and nothing happend.

2. I tried booting with 1 ram stick and verified that they were compliant with the correct ram slots.

3. I'm 99.9% sure the CPU was installed correctly. (I matched up the arrows)

4. All CPU fans are plugged in.

5. I checked the front panel plugs. They were in the right orientation but backwards on the first try to boot. I flipped them around tried again but got nothing.

I appreciate all of your help. I tried to be as specific as possible but if there is something I am leaving out let me know.

Thanks again!

I figured this out. I needed to take out the battery on the MOBO and put it back in. Now the comp boots up no issues. I got this from a similar thread.

To any newbies like me that read the troubleshooting guide. This is what was meant by "restarting the CMOS" in the troubleshooting guide. I had no idea that "restarting the CMOS" simply meant "take the battery out and put it back in."

I hope this thread helps other people.
