if i was to change one thing would be a arctic freezer ii 360mm for cooling !
but just for my recommendations because i use them both and found them great!!
im a big fan of the corsair hx 1000 80 platinum psu myself !!
and for gaming if you can get the WD sn850x 2tb m.2 is one of the best and can be found on sale from time to time

Good choices. Recommended. The ram speed too.
A 4090 for 1080p though...

I know... I was gonna say something then I looked up his monitor and saw it's 360hz.

Maybe that's why? LOL... I know jack about high refresh gaming though. I run a 4090 in 4K Ultra 60hz... not sure if a 4090 is a good match for lower resolution with high refresh rates.

You do not need a 4090 for 1080p.

But if you really want a 4090, here:

The motherboard has external clock gen, meaning your 7800X3D can be overclocked to around 5-10% more performance compared to motherboards that don't have one.

The RAM is SK Hynix M-die, the best DIMM for Ryzen 7000.

Lastly, buy some stocks with the remaining money. There is absolutely no need to buy anything more expensive than this.

That's all cpu, sir. Whether it's someone:
-running 300+ fps on a 60hz monitor with v-sync off
-running 300+ fps on a 360hz monitor
They're both the same to the cpu. It just won't look the same to the user.

not sure why you would go a d15 over a 360mm aio on a 7800x3d if the case has room !!

not sure where them figures were pulled from but ( and i understand diminishing returns on a over kill 420mm ) in cyberpunk 2077 im hitting 50 to 60c at 1080p with about 30% cpu usage with the 7800x3d and about the same across all resolutions no way 67c on a u14s unless it was tested on a open test bench in the middle of winter !!
i hit 75c all core cinebench r23 test with the arctic420mm with AMD offset

Air cooler is fine with these x3D chips... as that chart shows they aren't drawing the power or putting off the heat of 13th gen Intel chips.

I ran a 30 min all core burn test on my 7950x3D and it peaked at 89C...

... with the D15 air cooler.

Do you have any 4K monitors to recommend? OLED seems the way to go atm?

If you want the best possible picture quality and are in a dark setting nothing beats OLED.

I don't recommend OLED if you are in a room with all the lights on all the time... that takes away from the true black experience you get with OLED. In a dark setting... it's amazing.

That's my 48" CX OLED I use on my PC... can you see the edges of the screen? :ROFLMAO:

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I know 4K is where the 4090 shines.

This is a good compromise between 1080p 360hz+ monitors and 4k 120hz+ monitors and TVs.

If you want a 4k OLED the 42 inch 120hz C2 OLED is a good buy. The C3 from LG at 42 inches is even better but more expensive because its the latest and greatest.

Agreed about OLED as I said in my previous post. I got my 48" CX a couple years ago before the 42" came out and I must say the 48" is the perfect size display for me. Definitely don't want anything bigger... 42" I may have went with had it been available.

Mine is also 120hz but I've ran at both 60hz and 120hz and I just don't see a difference... which isn't uncommon. So I run at 60hz because the 4090 can handle it on Ultra where it can't really do 120 fps on the top tier AAA titles anyway... at least not on Ultra settings.

Thanks @Why_Me @ilukey77 @TravisPNW @IDProG @Phaaze88 very helpful

If you play online multiplayer first person shooter games such as Warzone, BF, etc ... I would consider a 27" 1440P 240Hz monitor. Perfect size if your monitor sits in front of you on your desk / table and longevity.

yeah thats fine i dont have a issue with the D15 as a cooler..

no way the nh u14s would get as low numbers as the graph provided in my previous post in real world !!

My argument is though a arctic freezer ii 360 non rgb in Australia atleast is about the same price as a D15 so why bother with the D15 the freezer ii will give better cooling unless your restrained by space in the case otherwise if there is room for a 360mm why go the lesser cooling solution ??

Especially if the ambient temperature in your room goes up, the air cooler will dissipate less heat. Liquid coolers are more consistent in their cooling in varying temperatures.

It's already been answered upthread. The Ryzen chips don't consume the power or generate the heat that the Intel chips do. The air coolers also don't have pumps that can leak or fail. They are also generally a lot cheaper.

I had a 360mm AIO on my previous Intel 10900k build. The cooler cost $350. It was not necessary on my new Ryzen build for reasons I just mentioned... so I went with an air cooler. I sold the AIO for $200 and used it to buy the D15 which is $130 and widely considered one of the best if not the best air cooler on the market.

Not an issue for me in western WA. Mild climate with comfortable ambient temps.

Still... if you're telling me that if I lived in the middle of Texas and my air conditioning went out and my ambient temps went up to 90F that my air cooler wouldn't be able to keep the CPU from imploding I'd take that bet.

No I wouldn't go that far, I'd wager that it would run hotter then an AIO cooler in the same room but it certainly wouldn't fry your cpu.

I wouldn't get the D15 either when a Thermalright Peerless Assassin is 1/3 the cost of the Noctua, and is pretty much overkill fora 7800X3D
