Question New Build with ASRocks Taichi x399, Error 10 Problem, Could it be RAM?

Hello!

I created a new build with these specs:

  • ASRocks x399 Taichi Motherboard
  • Ryzen Threadripper 1920x
  • G.Skills Ripjaw 32GB RAM, Model F4-3200C16D-32GVK
  • GeoForce RTX 2060 GPU
  • Evga 280 CLC
  • TeamGroup SATA 512GB, Model TM8PS7512GOC101
  • Corsair RM750 PSU
  • Corsair 275R Mid-Tower
After I powered up the motherboard for the first time, I got error code 10 from Dr. Debug on the motherboard. Then after a couple of seconds, the motherboard would power down, turn itself back on again, and repeat the same thing until I manually shut it off. Each time the lights would turn on and the fans would activate as well. After looking the error up I found two pieces of information about it:

  1. The debug code 10 means the PEI Core is Started
  2. And the manual says for numbers between 01-54: Problem related to memory. Please re-install the CPU and memory then clear CMOS. If the problem still exists, please install only one memory module or try using other memory modules.
I found two discussions online that were very similar to my problem and looked at all of the potential solutions. I then began to troubleshoot the problem. I tried

  • Disconnecting the gpu (afterwards I left it disconnected because it didn't seem to be the problem)
  • Disconnecting the TG SATA (afterwards I left it disconnected because it didn't seem to be the problem)
  • Making sure that all of the power connectors to the motherboard were connected to the power supply
  • Taking out the two sticks of RAM, trying both alone, and putting them into different places on the board. Originally they were in the A2 and B2 slot because that is what the manual says to do.
  • Updating the BIOS
  • Reinstalling the CPU and the cooler
  • Taking the entire motherboard out of the chassis and testing it
In between each of these, I always made sure to clear CMOS. The CPU cooler/fans are connected to the motherboard and they run whenever it starts. Every single time I started I always got the same type of error.

At this point, the only thing I can think of is that either the RAM does not work or it is not compatible with the motherboard. I looked up the motherboard on ASRocks and the specific type of RAM that I am using does not show up as a module compatible with it even though it is DDR4. Could the RAM not be compatible? In addition, I looked at the different types of memory drives on there and TeamGroup SATA 512GB model that I am using did not show up. Could that be incompatible as well?

Please let me know if you can think of anything else to try or if you believe my RAM could be the problem.

Thanks!

1x codes are before memory initialisation (CPU/chipset/memory controller initialisation)
check your mainboard for bent pins, try single RAM stick in A2 slot
try to run it for few minutes, first boot can take a while

if board didnt do first POST, u dont need to reset CMOS

Thanks for the response!

I stared at the mainboard for a while and didn't see any pins bent or out of order. I tried a single RAM stick in all of the slots. I haven't tried letting it just run for a few minutes so I'll do that but first I need to get more thermal paste.
