Hi,

I'm helping my friend build his PC, we installed all the components today however it gets stuck saying to insert boot media and press a key to continue.

I've unplugged everything unessential so we have connected currently:

  • ■ MSI Z370 Gaming Pro carbon motherboard
    ■ i7 8700k CPU
    ■ 1 stick of 8GB DDR4 Corsair LPX Vengeance 8gb 2133Mhz ram plugged into slot 2A
    ■ optical DVD drive
    ■ 250gb samsung evo 860 SSD

The OS is windows 10 on DVD which is what I'm trying to boot from. If I insert the disc the screen stays black forever and I can hear the DVD drive doing something, but nothing happens. If you open the drive the motherboard splash screen appears for a second and you can get into the bios.

I've also tried taking out the CMOS battery for 5 minutes.

Thanks in advance,
Kaine

I've already changed the DVD to be first and I've accessed the boot menu and selected it as well. Just thinks for awhile then tells me to insert boot media etc.. the DVD drive is not new, however it is recognised in the bios, but the windows 10 DVD itself was brand new straight into the drive so no scratches or dust.
