new build wont recognized hard drives

Hi, I have just done a (almost new) build and have a problem with my hard drives

MB: ga-990xa-ud3
CPU: phenom IIT x4 955be
RAM: vengeance 1600mhz 8gb
GPU: HD 7870 xt Tahiti
PSU: 750w earthwatts
CASE: corsair 800d

Basically when I plug my DVD and two hard drives in, it only connects to my old 150gb and DVD drive, my 1tb Samsung spin point isn't reconginised, I have tried all the ports etc and used them with the other hard drive and they work.

The werid thing is that very rarely in the 6hrs I was trying out it would connect but never both, got as far as installing windows 7 but wouldn't region side the HDD after rebooting.

Anyone got any ideas?

I have also updated to latest bios

checked my hardrive in another pc this morning works fine and shows up.

i think my problem is something to do with ahci mode? but im a complete noob when it comes to storage
