I normally have no problems with building desktops that I can't solve but this one has me stumped. I'm building a new computer for a friend:
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
CPU: AMD FX-4100 (Bundled with MOBO)
RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) Pareema DDR3 1333
Power Supply: COOLER MASTER RS-450-ACAA 450W

I originally tried it with two old power supplies, so when it didn't boot with either of those, I assumed they weren't providing enough power. I bought the Cooler Master, hooked everything up, and still nothing. I even tried bread-boarding it, and I'm not getting anything. Fans turn on, but there is no video and the keyboard lights don't turn on. There are no system beeps (with or without RAM). The only things I have attached right now are the power supply, the CPU, the system speaker, monitor and keyboard. Starting computer with paperclip between power pins and nothing at all. If anyone can give me anything to try before declaring that some component is dead, I would be very grateful

Ah, this is true... I would then suspect the mobo is bad and suggest you contact Gigabyte for RMA info (they may have a few things for you to check first but I think you've covered everything)
I have tried one stick at a time, but I'm really concerned that there are no beeps when all the ram is removed. It should give me a beep code indicating there is no RAM installed.

That's what I thought, but I wanted a second opinion before I did, thanks. I'll call them tomorrow, I appreciate the quick reply. I'll post here if it turns out to be something other than the CPU or mobo.

In that case I'm returning the mobo and CPU anyway. I bought them from tigerdirect as a mobo/CPU bundle. If the bios on the mobo is too old to handle the cpu that was bundled with it, then that was tigerdirect's fault and I should get a refund anyway. Thanks though, I'll check the bios chip and see if I can tell what bios version it shipped with.

I have the exact same problem , bought motherboard gygabite 78lmt-s2p fx4100 4 gig ram pre assembled and it is dead fans but nothing else the board looks bent unbelivable packaging when it arrived. company called tech next day from amazon wont answer there phones. Very very disapointed

Hi there, can you tell me how you resolved this. I have the same mobo. AMD bulldozer and 8gb. Sent it back and they apparently tested it but still no joy, can't figure how it can be anything else but the mobo.
Cheers
