Hi Guys and Gals
About ten years ago after a sorry experience of buying Dell gaming Computers, I stumbled on 'Tom's Hardware' and received great advice on a new build, and that build has been virtually flawless until recently. My old rig was based around a Coolmaster HAFX Case, ASUS P8P67 Delux R3 MoBo, and Intel i7-2600K Core but I now need to upgrade.
I'm now in my 85th year and want a completely new build that will not need to be replaced so could you please recommend compatible Case, MoBo, and Core that would be upgradable over a ten year span (perhaps a little optimistic but it could be passed on)
I've had great experiences using the last build and much of that is due to the sound advice that you provided me with last time round.
Thanks again. I await your recommendations.

What is the intended use for this pc?
What is your budget?
What is the make/model of your current parts?
Perhaps some can be reasonably reused.
Do you need/want a dvd drive?
"future proofing" is not a great idea where pc parts are concerned.
In 2-3 years, we will have better price/performing parts where an upgrade is not as good as a replacement.
Buy what you need for now plus a few years time frame.

FWIW: In processors, I3/I5/I7/I9 no longer designate the number of cores and the presence of hyperthreading.
It is now more of a general capability designation.
For example, your I7-2600K was top of the line some 12 years ago for some $320.
It had 8 processing threads and a passmark rating of 5487 when all 8 threads were fully occupied.
The single thread performance rating was 1740.
Today, a $140 I3 13100 processor costs half as much yet has a total performance rating 3x better(15611)
and a single thread performance(3767) that is 2x better.
You can go up from there.

Thanks for the advice Guys
Use for single player latest games. Next buy will be 'Last of Us'. Usually play first run Normal then Nightmare or equivalent for challenge purposes.
Budget not important
May use some of my existing parts such as:-
Graphics 12gb ASUS GEFORCE RTX 3060
Memory 2 x 8gb DDR3 RAM Crucial
PSU Corsair HX 850
SSD Corsair GT 120gb SATA 3
HDD Western Digital 1tb SATA 6
Disc Drive 1 Liteon iHBS 212 Bluray
Disc Drive 2 Liteon iHAS 324
Soundcard XONAR DX
Any of the above may be changed if rig is improved
Parts normally obtained from Amazon or direct from manufacturer
I live in the UK. so no MicroCentre
If you think any of the above would integrate fully with your suggested basic build please advise.
Obviously need a 2 tb HDD to store current games and probably a 300gb SSD for OS and documents
Many thanks for your valued advice.
