New builder needs help with motherboard compatibility

Hi all,

I recently purchased the Asus Prime B450M-A/CSM motherboard for my first pc build. To accompany this, I purchased the following items:

RAM: G.skill Fortis 16gb 2133mhz DDR4
SSD: Toshiba TR200 SSD (240gb)
HDD: Hitachi 2TB HDD

For reference, my CPU is an AMD Ryzen 2200G and my PSU is EVGA 450 BR.

However, after purchasing these products I realized that Asus had some QVLs that I didn't see before. I am now nervous that some of these storage/memory devices are incompatible with this motherboard. For instance, I do not even see Hitachi listed in the HDD section on the QVL PDF. Please let me know if my hardware is compatible. It is all still within its return period so I should be able to switch things out if need be.

HDDs/SSDs are standard. They all work fine. The QVL list only has the units tested with the board. If its not there, doesnt mean it wont work.
But for optimum performance, make sure the HDD is a 7200rpm unit.

However, Ryzen's performance is directly related to RAM speed. And 2100mhz is not good for Ryzen performance. The optimum performance speed is around 3000/3200mhz. Return that if you can.

2133mhz may not be ideal, but is there any fundamental problem with using it? For instance, would it cause windows to crash (because I am having this problem)? I'm not a gamer so I don't push my computer too hard... also the CAS latency of the RAM is 15. RAM is super expensive and I'd rather not spend more money if I don't have to.

Hi all,

I just built a pc for the first time over the weekend. Here are the specs (all parts are new):

Motherboard: Asus Prime B450M-A

Storage: Toshiba TR200 SSD (240gb)
Storage: Hitachi 2TB HDD

Windows boots up and I am able to completely use the computer (internet, apps, etc.). However, without fail, a blue screen of death will appear within ~5 mins and the computer will reboot. Every single stop code that is possible seems to appear (e.g. PFN LIST CORRUPT, SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION, IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP, DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION, MEMORY MANAGEMENT, and so on...every time it reboots a different code appears). I have no clue what could be causing this. As a note, this is a completely new build with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. I installed drivers and this was still happening. However, I have now reset Windows and I have no drivers installed (or anything for that matter--it is completely fresh).

It seems what is causing the problem are the Windows updates. In particular, the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4346783)" seems to be what is causing the crash every time it reaches a 100% download. I have tried troubleshooting but no matter what I do I can't get this to install correctly.

If anyone could please help I would much appreciate it. I have been trying to solve this for 2 days now.

Also as a note (not sure if this is important), when I originally installed Windows using the media creation tool on a flash drive, it would not download when I tried to boot from UFEI mode. Only when I used the normal USB drive to boot did Windows successfully download and startup without errors.

First thing to do is make sure all drivers and BIOS are up to date. Next thing is to run memtest86 a few passes.

It is at the lowest end of Ryzen performance. But, If you can sacrifice the performance delta, then it should be ok.
