hello i ordered parts to build my first computer and i was wondering when i install the standoff screws is it safe to let the mobo touch the case or will it fry it

only time a mb will fry if you power it on and it on top of a piece of metal. most newer cases now they have the whole tapped for mb and there lettered so it hard not to put a standoff in the right place.

If your mobo will be touching case when you push power button you can have short-circuit and fry mobo.

so if nothings plugged in and everythings off i can just sit the mobo in the case without standoffs and it will be fine?

Yes until you not plug to mobo power cables and do not try power up mobo
