New Built PC expects ethernet?

Hello everyone. I just built my awesome new gaming pc today and I'm really excited to start using it. I installed windows 8.1. Because my pc does not have an optical drive, I put the contents of my motherboard's support disk with drivers and such onto a usb. I ran the application and successfully installed all drivers, however when I try to connect to a network on windows, it says no connection is found. When I run the diagnostics, it says the connection cable is missing or damage...?

I have a wireless router, I should be able to connect to wifi, correct? I have an AsRock Fatal1ty h97 performance motherboard. Please, any help is appreciated.

can be two issues...first is real easy by default the onboard ethernet is always the main port in windows. you have to go to networtk and disable the onboard ethernet to turn on the wifi stick/card. the other issue is your wifi stick/card is missing it drivers. if there a cd that came with it copy the drivers to the usb stick from another pc and install them.

Thank you for replying. When I go into network, it just says Ethernet not connected, and below it says add a vpn connection. I'm a little confused...

go back there and right click on ethernet conenction and click disabled. then go to system...device manager and see under network devices your wifi stick/card is missing or there yellow !! there for it. if it missing copy the drivers for it from another pc to a usb stick and install them.

did you buy a pci wifi card or usb stick you cant get wifi unless you have that or the mb has a built in wifi card. you need a cable to go from the pc to the router unless you have one of them.

The only thing located there is ethernet, and I have installed the drivers numerous times by now. I'm very confused and this makes no sense. Thank you for helping, though, it means a lot

The motherboard supports Ethernet connections just fine, the problem is that you don't have an ethernet cable connected to your router, just like Windows stated.

If you must use wireless (not a good idea for gaming), you need to buy a wireless adapter, either PCIe or USB ones work. The ethernet cable however is cheaper and faster.
