Should i get an e6600 @ 2.40 Ghz or an e6420 @ 2.13 Ghz for $60 less?

e6600 has a x9 multiplier i believe
e6420 has a x8 multiplier

both have 4mb cache; the e6420 can probably easily be overclocked to 2.4ghz and beyond, but the e6600 will be able to overclock higher

hmmmm....

60 bucks is alot to my budget.

E6420 is fine, it'd reach 2.4-3.0 easy, higher with an aftermarket cooler. I mean they're both basically the same chip...other than the lower multiplier, they're the same. Get the E6420 and save yourself some money.

If $60 can impact your budget just get the 6420. This way you can overclock a bit and put that $60 toward a better video card or motherboard or else. I have a e6400 and I hit 3.2 with a good cooler. The conroes should clock just as well.
