Why does it seem to take the big retail stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, PC
Richard, etc.) the longest to get the newest items in their stores?

Probably for the same reason they don't carry every current models.
They don't want to be stuck with slow moving stock that ends up
costing them more than what they would make in sales otherwise.

Big store chains contract with the mfrs They often wait until they get a
favorable price for a large quantity.
