Hi All,
My old PSU fan was definitely going. It started to sound quite loud, and so I decided to replace it. I had it in a mini-tower and decided to upgrade that too. So I moved all of this into my Fractal Design Define R5 case, except that I replaced the PSU with a Bitfenix Whisper M80 - 650W.
I disconnected almost everything, but did not disconnected the CPU or it's cooler/fan from the motherboard while moving it. I was pretty careful, using a anti-static wrist wrap, taking pictures of the original connections, and consulted the motherboard manual.
When I try and power it on now, it "stutters". There are a series of loud clicks from the PSU (95% it's from there), and they don't sound like the fan to me. In time with each click the system "attempts" to power up. The other fans start to spin for a second, stop, and then start again with the next click (or maybe start, and stop with each click). I turned it off pretty quick, checked as many connections as I could, and tried again. Same thing, but I left it on a second longer and it just... died. I turned it on and off again a few times and got absolutely no signs of life.
I thought I had blown it, but hooked my old PSU back up to just the motherboard and graphics card (completely disconnecting the old one) and got life in the fans and some indicator LEDs. I plugged the old one back in and got the same stutter-start for a few seconds before it "completely" died again - meaning I could turn it off and on and get no movement or led activity. After leaving it for half an hour it stutter-starts again. I turned it off after one click and haven't tried it since.
Any help is appreciated!
Cheers!
