Hi community!

I recently built a computer with brand new parts, and I utilized the link below to determine compatibility (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wgM68M) and I'm having an issue, I would really appreciate any tips! I hope I provide the most details you need to answer.

Problem: my computer restarts a minute or two after logging into my windows 10 login screen to my desktop. I dont hear any odd noises, and if I continue the login, in some cases, I cant even get to the desktop before it resets.

Specs:
Intel Core i7-9700K CPU 3.6 Ghz
Micro-Star International Co. Z390-A Pro (MS-7B98) v.1 Intel Motherboard
16GB DDR4 ram 3000MHz
Radeon alAMD Rx 580 Series GPu
1TB Hard drive
750 watt PSU

BIOS:
VCore: 0.968V
DDR Voltage
DRAM Frequency 2133 MHz
CPU temp 31 celcius
Motherboard temp 26 celcius
CPU Base clock: 100.00 MHz

If you need any further information please let me know!

Further details: Upon building the computer, I put maybe a tad too much thermal compound to the CPU seat, but it didnt seem to spill over, anyone experience this eith too much compound? The fan piece sits directly on the CPU, metal bottom touching the buckle of the CPU seat, and extenders of fan corners screws into motherboard. Fans work perfectly, but I get the feeling this is a motherboard clocking, heating issue.

As new to windows 10 I did find a lot of articles about the auto restart option under the updates and security settings and I turned this off, but still resets. heres the link I found the trouble shooting for the auto reset ( https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/windows-10-reboot-loop.html). I did steps #1 and #5. I couldn't update the graphics card because I need to go online and the system will restart too soon to update.

I Appreciate your time in helping, I will check this forum everyday so I answer any questions you may have promptly! Thanks so much!

BIOS version E7B98IMS.160
PSU: Corsair CX750M 750 WATT
I did perform a fresh OS just today, and the system restarted after finishing the reboot.

As a side note, upon the windows 10 setup after install, I lost the image on my monitor, it blinked a fee times, then came back with clothes color distorted as a light real and purple outline. I unplugged both HDMI cords (own two new monitors) and plugged in only one back to the tower, and it was fine.

I'm doing another fresh OS install, cleaning the previous files.

Thank you for your inquiry!

First when doing your Windows 10 install you monitor will blink a few times this is normal trying to install your video card. Second you have a RX 580, the screen will look weird colors until you restart. We have some of those and don't know why but it's normal just restart. Than go get the latest drivers from AMD/ATI's web site for your RX 580. Install them and restart.

Is the computer at least staying on now?

Hi Stonecarver,

Thanks for the tip, I wasnt aware this happens but I'll keep that in mind!

I installed a new driver update for the rx 580 graphics card while under safe mode and the computer still restarts upon login or soon after. I have also cleared and reset the computer twice now without any luck.

I have an SSD I haven't used and a friend gave me a tip to try installing windows on the Ssd instead of the hardribe. Going to give that a shot tonight.

Thanks!

So just to recap when you were in safe mode before you installed the RX 580 drivers did the computer stay on, no restart?

Did you install your motherboard drivers?

Did you go to windows updates and get all your patches.

Did you while on windows updates go and get All the .Net updates Microsoft has to offer. Video card Drivers NEED .Net's to run properly.

Are Motherboard setting set to default. Just trying to get you up and running than you can move forward.

Have you looked at CPU motherboard pins to make sure nothings bent. That goes back to my first question does it stay on in safe mode without Video Card driver installed.

My computer did restart in safe mode when I was updating the RX580 graphics card. Safe mode has been my go to for looking for possible solutions and have been in safe mode more than a few times, and it only restarted with the above mentioned situation. That being said, I dont think I've been in safe mode longer than 30 minutes for anything else. Perhaps that's a clue to your above inquiry about CPU motherboard pins. Sounds like I may need to open back up the CPU buckle and take a look.

All other inquiries I did not perform except the graphics card update. I'll work on these tonight and hope to have an update tomorrow morning.

Thank you Stonecarver!

Stonecarver,

Thank you for your help on this forum, your advice proved to solve the problems of my computer; I'm free of resets!

I believe the key solution to the reset problem I started this thread about is the update to the bios of my motherboard using the flash function in the boot menu. The version was updated to the most current driver. I also updated the graphics card driver, prior to updating the motherboard. I did all this in safe mode.

I plan to test the system with a ultra high quality Skyrim game over the weekend (require speakers to play which I dont have, purchased a pair on Amazon today).

Thank you again Stonecarver! I really appreciate it!

Hello community!

I am asking for further assistance again regarding the thread topic, as after several attempts to resolve, my computer still resets about two minutes into logging into Windows 10 login screen and on the desktop.

Stonecarver has provided some good tips to start looking for the problem. I updated the motherboard BIOS to a newer version, BIOS Ver: E7B98IMS.181. The previous version was E7B98IMS.160. Prior to the BIOS update (using flash drive), I updated the graphics card driver. So first, graphics card driver, then BIOS update. I thought the motherboard BIOS update did the trick, and the system stayed on for an entire evening, to the next morning. Everything seemed fine until I started setting up my new printer, pebble speakers and wifi internet (using USB). After it reset, another reset didn't occur until roughly an hour in on the desktop. As of now, the resets seem to occur on the same intervals as they had when I started this thread and I'm at a loss.

I do have a issue with updating the motherboard driver. I get this error:

At the MSI motherboard support page: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z390-A-PRO#down-driver&Win10 64

I've attempted to install (in Safe mode) the Intel Chipset Driver and the Intel Management Engine Driver, however on each attempt I get a "Unknown Error" and a chance to review the log files. I have pasted the log files below, has anyone had similar issues?

This is a very interesting problem...
Hi Andrew! I actually have the exact same issue and what I find interesting is the fact that we have different parts for our builds except the motherboard and PSU. so I'm assuming there's something related to one of them? I've done everything I could think of but what's strange is that it happens more frequently on specific programs, mainly Google Chrome and the video game Apex Legends.
I know you've posted this over 5 months ago but have you actually solved the problem? did you find any solution, I mean it's happening less frequently now for some unknown reason (twice a day) but if you have any clue as to how to get rid of it permanently that would be great.

Hi, I did solve the problem! I switched out my PSU with a seasonic brand, see below:

Seasonic FOCUS GX-550, 550W 80+ Gold, Full-Modular, Fan Control in Fanless, Silent, and Cooling Mode, 10 Year Warranty, Perfect Power Supply for Gaming and Various Application, SSR-550FX.

I didn't have much success with the attempts I made prior to changing my PSU, and I read online somewhere that my issues could be due to the Corsair brand I had as it did have bad reviews.

I would recommend purchasing the PSU listed above, I am free of problems with my PC!

That's great news!
one final question though, the problem is now completely gone after changing the PSU right?
Thank you so much for the information!
