New system in general or get newer components whenever i need them?

Currently this is my system:

CPU: Intel Core I7-4790K
GPU: Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Edition
PSU: Corsair PS800 bronze edition
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB
SSD Samsung pro EVO 850 250GB
MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming 5

I am looking for a new system that will completely overkill most things and i have been looking on Overclockers and have configured something along the lines of what i would like. This is the link: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-tech-labs-kabylake-pro-gaming-pc-configurator-fs-019-tl.html#p=NmE1-.?NmF1-,ZNmO1-(-NmS1-'@NmT1-_UNnb1-'wNnk1-.6SED1z@@TDh1YyyTDi1YyvTDj1YywTGJ1Zz7THc1Z#3TPt1#wWTPA1#xYbaBi20U8baGe22,ybaGs22!zbaGt22!Ubida2$$?bidb2$!3bjom2_u/bjon2_uubjoo2_uvblai2@9Xblaj2@+y

The computer i currently have is good don't get me wrong but i would like an upgrade, but then a friend also said why not just get an SLI GTX 1080 instead which would be a lot cheaper and overkill any game. This is a great idea however my computer components are around 3 years old now and i don't know the lifespan of most components.

Any help would be appreciated on whether i should i just upgrade to SLI or get an entirely new computer to overkill any game, Thanks.

SLI is not a good idea as it is not optimized or supported for all games. The instances where it is optmized, it is not guaranteed to give you the overkill you are looking for. It is alwats recommended to go for one big card. Your setup is still pretty good for any standard. But if you still need more performance, get a 1080ti instead... http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080-Ti/2576vs3918
Your setup can still run fine for a few years without any major upgrade.
