Hello all,

I am planning to build a computer for the first time, so this will be a new experience for me. I have lurked the board for a little over a month and have an idea of what I want, I even bought the motherboard/processor already. So I have about 700-800 dollars to spend on the rest of the components.

Approximate Purchase Date: Will probably purchase the parts next week.

Budget Range: I'd say btw 700-800 dollars US

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing internet, home media storage/server, streaming media to other computers.

Parts Not Required: This is what I have so far.

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0386359

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, but any website with the best price is fine.

Country: USA, Washington DC

Parts Preferences: Well I have an intel already, I play WoW so might a slight preference to Nvidea(sp?), but it is Very slight, would prefer the better card period.

Overclocking: Yes, but nothing extreme. Would prolly be Oc'ed to 4300 at the max, initially only planning to do 4000

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, my motherboard supports it, but I don't know if I will do it.

Monitor Resolution: best possible based on budget

Additional Comments: Would like a good looking case that also has good performance. I'd really like an SSD drive for the operating system. I have a mouse, but need a keyboard.

I would be willing to go over my budget if it makes sense. Meaning, if it makes a huge different to go 100-200 dollars over then i'd be willing to do it, but not for a small increase. I don't really play the most graphic intensive games, but I at least want the option to do so.

Well personaly I find 1080p in 23" to be kinda small (character especialy) but well 23" isn't that bad. The first monitor you've linked was only 21.5". Its kinda like buying a whole home surround theater kit for 2000$ to watch movie on a 32" plasma tv.

the 670gtx will do run whathever you want at ultra +AA in 1080p its fine and IMO the 680gtx and the...

1) Like stated get cheaper ram
2) Case is good but mine perform as well for cheaper
3) Don't buy an SSD for a medium range build I,d say just get a bether GPU instead
4) Get a bether monitor IMO its a waste to play with a 300$+ GPU on something below 24"
5) A CPU cooler is something everyone should add to their build that one for 30$ is awsome for the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

Can some explain comment #4? I am not really familiar with monitor performance...but what will a 24''+ monitor provide me that a 23'' monitor won't?

I'm just goin to spend more on a better GPU...unless u are saying get something better than a 670?

Can somebody link me to a good future proofed PSU? I noticed I left it off my build when somebody linked one earlier in the thread.

I,ve linked you a good PSU you can always go for 700-750w if your afraid to miss power later on.

Just stay with the good brand corsair, seasonic, antec etc.

Here is a good one for 100$: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371051

Rosewill make a 750w PSU for 90$. Usualy Rosewill make good product but I'm not aware of their PSU quality maybe someone else might help you on that.

No. The #1 most important component in a computer is the PSU. Buy a bad quality one, and your expensive computer goes up in smoke. Get from the brands(No particular order):

Corsair
Antec
SeaSonic
OCZ
PC Power and Cooling
SilverStone
XFX

Rosewill, CoolerMaster, and Rosewill are decent, but if I were you, I'd get one from the above list.

So I am doing my final review before I purchase the parts tomorrow and I have last minute questions

Why wouldn't I spend an extra 10 dollars to get 1600 speed Ram, vs the 1333 you guys recommend?

I have been reading reviews of SDDs and it seems to have high failure rates after a few months? Is this common or did I just look at bad drives?

Besides those 2 issues, I think I am pretty set on what is listed below unless somebody tells me I picked something wrong.

24" Monitor 1080p -200

This fan over the other one listed due to me not being able to tell if a certain fan will fit a case - 30

PSU - 100

I am also still deciding on the case for aesthetic reasons...So based on what I have listed (my MOBO and processor are listed above)...what settings can i expect to play games on (Skyrim, BF3 and the like)
