New computer build, can't download files

Hello,
I just built my first computer and I am having an issue that I cannot find a solution to. I managed to put my computer together without any major hiccups, and install a retail copy of windows 8.1. However, I cannot download any files and I cannot figure out why. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Some details about the problem and my system build:

-The internet appears to be working fine. One strange thing I've noticed is that although pages appear to be fully loaded the loading circle thingy never stops spinning.

- I installed Firefox from a usb, and I am experiencing the same issues in both ie and firefox. The downloads usually will not start at all and are stuck at 0% with no error messages. One thing that is interesting is that every once in awhile a download will start in firefox, but will stop downloading after a couple of MBs. I can pause and resume the download to get a few more MBs, but I still have yet to complete a download before it just stops completely.

- The computer is hooked up to a MyNet 900c router with an ethernet cable. Maybe the router is the issue?

- For some reason neither ie nor firefox will load the utorrent website. This seems very odd to me, since I have not problem getting to it on my other computers.

- I have not installed any software or drivers onto the machine except for the OS and Firefox.

- I wasn't really sure what I was doing when I partitioned my SSD drive during the OS install. Could I have possibly made it so nothing could be downloaded to the drive?

- I have tried shutting off the firewall completely. This did nothing.

- I have tried updating the OS through the control panel, but every time I've tried searching for updates it loads for a while and then ultimately fails. It does not appear that it is even able to connect to whatever server/source where it finds updates.

I have searched through countless websites and have not found a single useful piece of info for my problem. At this point I don't have any clue where to even start trying to find a solution. Does anyone know where the problem with my system might lie?

Thanks,
Ben

My Computer shows 437GB of free space on my C: drive

I just installed all of the drivers, including a network driver, off of the disc that came with my MSI Z97S Krait Edition Mobo.

I am still not having any luck. I have also noticed that there are more websites that refuse to load at all, Toms Hardware being one of them.

I am going to try installing the newest version of java and adobe flash player from a usb drive to see if that helps.

Any other suggestions?

Edit: I installed the newest versions of flash player and java and it didn't make a lick of difference. I find it very strange that websites like yahoo and facebook are loading instantaneously, but other websites like utorrent.com or tomshardware.com will not load at all.

I have a Motorola SurfBoard SB6121 modem connected to a Western Digital MyNet 900C router.

I just did a clean reinstall of windows 8.1, it automatically updated during install but other then that I did not install any drivers or any other software.

IE seemed to be working slightly better. I was able to successfully download iTunes after only restarting the download only once, but I still cannot go to some websites.

I have Comcast, running a speed test shows a DL of 90Mbps UL of 12Mbps and a ping of 10ms, so I'm really not sure what is going on.

I'm going to try updating all of my drivers this afternoon, and reinstall firefox, but I doubt that will fix my problem because it didn't before.

Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes.

What is the purpose of trying the Realtek drivers?

I am guessing if it works plugging straight into the modem it shows that the problem is with my router?

I tried everything that we talked about, and none of it had any effect except......

Plugging my Ethernet cable directly into my modem is working perfectly :) :) :) First step towards success. I guess that isolates my router as the culprit? But what settings should I be looking at changing on my router?

I updated the firmware months before I started building this new computer, so I've only tested the Ethernet connection on the newest version of the firmware. I never tried using the Ethernet connection before updating the firmware to the newest version.

Yup, that was me lol (notice the familiar username "jonsnow" vs. "jonsnow84"). I have also searched through all of the N900 threads on the WD Community forum, and I have not found a solution so far.

I'm trying to use as many outlets as possible to solve this problem.

I found out that I cannot even access my router from my desktop. Typing the address into a webpage never loads, so I was forced to change router settings wirelessly from my laptop. I am going to try plugging my laptop into the Ethernet connection tonight to see if it is the Ethernet connection or the desktop that is acting up.

I am also able to download torrents with almost no issue. They are somewhat slow (I would guess about 20% of the speed I get on my laptop) but they start right up and don't seem to have any issues.

Well the problem was definitely caused by my Western Digital MyNet N900 Router. I tried plugging two different computers into it and they both experienced the same problems. I messed around with every single setting that I could think of on the router, but I still couldn't fix the problem.

I ended up using a different router and my internet is now working fine, but I'm still unhappy because I never found out what was wrong with my original router to begin with.
