This is my 2nd time building a computer since about 5 years ago so I'm practically a newb with this again.

I got all the parts installed and connected in the case and everything seems to be working correctly. I set the boot sequence to detect my DVD-ROM first, but it still doesn't seem to want to boot from disk.

When I restart the computer after changing the boot sequence with the disk in, it says:
"Verifying DMI Pool Data..............
Boot from CD/DVD:

and then nothing happens. The drive will start to spin the disc and then it just stops and I hear a beep or 2. It will just repeat this continously. I can tell the mobo detects the drive and everything just by opening it since it moves down a line on the screen and says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." Of course when I do that it does absolutely nothing.

These are some of the parts I'm using:

yea they are both detected in Bios and I did save and exit BIOS before restarting the computer.

they are both SATA drives. Right now the dvd drive is connected as IDE Channel 1 Slave and the hard drive is connected as IDE Channel 3 Master. I didn't think dealing with master/slave stuff mattered when using SATA devices. The other 8 channels just dispaly "None." Wonder if that might have anything to do with it but i'm guessing it doesn't.

Is there a resolution to this? I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Brand new mobo (GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H) and hard drive (Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD). 32 bit vista dvd will spool up just fine in my IDE DVD/CD RW drive, but no joy with Vista 64. I've even tried starting with a vista 32 recovery disk and then slipping out the dvd after I get to the first color screen, but it's as if the vista 64 dvd is blank.

i switched my IDE dvd drive from my old computer temporarily and that got it to work. I thought for sure there was something wrong with my new dvd drive but now that i got everything up and running, it is NOW working. :ange:

i don't understand how this SATA dvd-rw drive can not boot vista 64 to install, yet it is now working perfectly all of a sudden. I was prepared to RMA the thing but glad I checked it again one more time.
