New computer can only get video out for a few seconds in bios

Hello,
Just built my first pc, i get the one beep on bootup-everything seems fine- but i have hdmi going through the gpu to the monitor and i can see the motherboard screen come up and says press del to go into bios but after 5 or so seconds the video output disappears.. What could be causing this?
