THIS one is driving me NUTZ !!
Just built a new computer
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-325718-2.html#5471331
ASRock X99 WS-E 40-lane PCIE MoBo; Unlocked Intel i7 5930K 6-core processor (NOT OC'ed)
16 GB DDR4 Corsair 2x4GB (x2) Paired Memory; 2x512GB Crucial SSD system drive in RAID1
120 GB OCZ SSD Swap / Scratch Drive
4x3TB WD Red NAS HDD in RAID5 Data/Program Drive (9TB accessible)
1300W EVGA Power Supply; 3x ASUS STRIX GTX 970 Video in SLI
LG 34UM95-P IPS 34" Ultra Wide-screen Monitor; Nanoxia Deep Silence 5 Computer Case
Computer connects to router through a gigabit auto-sense switch (duplex 1GB) via Cat-6 cable
I have the most current Intel drivers for the Dual Port i210 LAN controller
As well as the most current Firmware installed on the Router
My OLD HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop connected through the same switch hits the router just fine
My New build hits the router - asks for ID & Password, entered, and NOTHING happens.
Interestingly: Intel LAN diagnostics report cable failure 0 meters from the computer
Switching out THREE different, high quality Cat-6 cables made no difference in the report
The Pavilion reported Poor cable quality (not unexpected as is only a Cat-5 cable at 1GB)
Changing ports on the switch - - no difference (green light indicates 1GB connection)
Switching to the SECOND LAN port on the MoBo - - Same Problem
Forcing the new computer down to 100Mbps Half Duplex was WORSE
I didn't even get a router Log-In request at that setting.
EVERYTHING ELSE works fine - - I can hit my NAS at 1GB over the home network
and Zero Problemo with internet connectivity (a relative slug at 20Mbps)
ASUS Support: Clueless
Any thoughts ??

OUCH - - Really BAD Advice. As I learned 2 days ago - - only now have regained partial computer functionality.
Hint: NEVER mess with your BIOS unless you are CERTAIN that will fix a totally unacceptable problem.
Message sent to ASROCK Tech:
BIOS upgrade suggested.
Went to the ASROCK website - downloaded ALL of the interval X99 WS-E BIOS (1.4, 1.5, 1.7)
NONE would install - either from the Windows installation package NOR from the BIOS installer
ALL reported no compatible BIOS found.
SO - - I used the built-in BIOS Upgrade tab.
THAT located BIOS version A1262.ROM listed as P1.7 which matched what I was looking for
SO - - I installed that.
The process DELETED ALL MY BIOS SETTINGS - - THAT SUCKS !! DON'T DO THAT !!!
Booted back into Windows
Ensured All Win7 MoBo Chipset drivers were the most recent.
AND:
Still can't hit the Router Admin page - asks for ID/Password - then stalls
The same process works FINE from a hardwire Win7 Laptop plugged into the same switch with Intel LAN Chipset
PLUS - - Now my USB to RAID5 volume Transfer rate STINKS at 4Mbps
-
SO - - What The Heck Happened?
Why did NONE of the downloaded BIOS install ??
What the Heck DID Install to BIOS (A1261.ROM)
WHY does my USB3 data transfer rate STINK
WHY does my RAID5 volume data transfer rate STINK ??
-
Just to add a little sugar to it - -
After the BIOS change, all the parameters were reset to default, killing my RAID Data Volume
The copy back from my 3TB backup will only take another 150 hours at 3MBps
-
SO - - any more 'good ideas' ??

Accepted - -
Was going to post a new topic re RAID5 write speeds - but forum already had the answer:
-
To get ANY kind of Write performance out of a RAID5, I have to enable disk-level write caching under the RAID5 Device Manager. The danger, of course, is data loss or corruption on power failure. I do have a UPS that should hold things up for 5 - 10 minutes, so I enabled disk level caching - and I'm back up to 40MB/s writes (from 2MB/s)
-
SO - - back to the original question - - I have now updated my BIOS to current version P1.70, system restored.
Still can't hit the Admin page on my RT-N66U
