Just bought a new computer at Fry's:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 3800+
ECS GeForce6100SM-M Motherboard
1 GB DDR2 Kingston PC5300 (2x512)

I put it together and....... it won't boot. 🙁

I press the power button and the CPU Fan starts turning. But that's about it. No beeps. No BIOS, nothing.

Is my motherboard fried? Or my CPU?

Weird stuff: pressing the power button turns it on. But when I hold it, it won't turn off... Also, the LED lights aren't working for some reason, even though I have the front panel plugged in correctly, according to the manual.

What could cause that? Especially the power button not working to turn OFF the cpu. Is that an indication of fried mobo? Doh!

Not familiar with your MOBO but are you sure your power supply is hooked up to ALL the necssary areas of your system? Main power, CPU plugs (if present) and video card (if it requires one)?

Assuming you have done above then: For first boot and testing be sure to unhook ALL needless system components and have all cards removed from MOBO. Only have CPU, 1 stick of RAM, video card and monitor. If this fails to boot try resetting CMOS. Also try re-setting RAM into the slot and moving it to another slot.

If you get it booting with this barebones setup then add the other stuff in one by one till problem occures again.

Be sure also your MOBO is not shorting against the case floor. As long as there are standoffs this will not be an issue.

Haha! I didn't realize I had to plug in the 4 pin 12V connector

(2nd from the left, next to the 24 pin)

Boots into BIOS now w/ just CPU, RAM, & onboard video.

Thanks!!!
