Hello,

I just built a computer but have been having problems.

1) The problem:
-When I first built it, initially when I would turn the power supply on but the computer power button not pressed, all of the system fans would power up at high speed. I would then press the power button to turn on the computer, and the system fans would slow down to a more normal speed. When I went to turn off the computer, everything would turn off except the fans which would then go back to high power mode. The only way to cut off power was to physically flip the switch on the power supply. Other than this, the computer launched, I was able to browse the web, play PC games, etc.

-Fast forward 3-4 days, the fan issue still exists, but now when I go to turn on the computer it won't turn on anymore. I press the power button and it doesn't light up, and there's no response as if the computer is loading

2) What I've tried:
I followed this link: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems
And have tried basically everything in here.
-I've taken out every component and re-inserted them. I removed my GFX card and tried to launch without video. Nothing is working

3) My build:
Thermaltake RGB 71 view case
ASUS strix z390-e gaming mobo
intel i9-9900k CPU, with AIO thermaltake RIING 360 cooler
ASUS RTX 2080 TI
samsung 970 evo m.2 memory, and 3TB Barracuda hdd
EVGA supernova 850W Gold

Could the motherboard have a problem? I really can't think of anything else for why it won't even turn on anymore.

hello terry, thank you for the fast response. I have removed and replugged these in many many times. I am confident that I at least have the power button connections right, if not all connections (because I was initially at least able to turn the computer on). The computer stopped turning on even without me changing the orientation of those wires so I don't think that is it. I have since removed and fiddled with the polarities and triple checked I have them in the proper orientation

The power button pins just need closed circuit to turn on the system. In fact you can short across those two pins to turn on the system.

You can update the motherboard drivers and the motherboard BIOS. It is possible that a driver is corrupted. If that doesn't fix the issue, I would return the motherboard before the return period runs out.

You can also try reinstalling Windows afterwards.

Hello,

I did end up returning the motherboard thinking that was the issue. Unfortunately, I got the replacement motherboard today, reinstalled everything and the same problem is happening. Any other ideas? this is driving me insane

The problem may be a faulty power supply cable for instance.

Then I would suggest breadboarding the system. Normally this is done to eliminate any problems with the motherboard grounding to the PC case. But if you remove the case connections completely it isolates the motherboard from ant control inputs from the power button.

It will also help narrow the problem component down.

Here are three sets of instructions for breadboarding the motherboard. Read through them and pick one to follow.
