Hello. Currently my set up is

fx8350
noctua dh 14
asrock 990 fx killer
kingston hyper x ddr3-1600 cl 10
samsung 850 pro (boot)
mx100(storage, lol)
gigabyte r9 280
corsair 400r
antec 750W 80+ gold (Japanese capacitors FTW)
monitor: acer h236hl bid

I really want to grab a new monitor. I am pretty set on a 27 in with 100+ hz ips.
Do I need to up my graphics card in order to run a 100+ hz monitor? I am aiming for a 2 monitor set up.
So I am thinking about running another gigabyte r9 280, but they are so expensive.

What can I do?

Thank you.

id like to go to space in my car. pity that rockets are expensive.

ok, first up forget 100hz nonsense. You cant run 1080 at max with an r9 280, let alone 2 monitors, let alone 2 monitors at 144hz. This stuff cost money and youre currently dreaming.

Get the single fastest graphics card you can afford. Get the best single monitor you can afford. if youve got the cash, get 27" 1440p instead of 24" 144hz. You will need a decent card though. 970 minimum, preferably a 980.

so you are saying i need a r9 290 and above. time to save pay check to pay check. are my other components alright?

as for you car question, go get some weed and hot box in the car. if youre high enough, you might actually be in space. good luck brother.

Personally id go with an intel i5 system but that costs a bit more. The single biggest diff in games is the GPU. The r9 280 woefully underpowered. for ATI cards id hope you can afford a 380.

Oh man, that means ill have to get rid of most of my rig =). I already built my rig. is the GIGABYTE Ultra Durable VGA GV-R938WF2OC-2GD Radeon R9 380 Graphic Card - 980 MHz Core - 2 GB GDDR5 SDRAM - PCI a alright alternative. It is currently being sold for about 160.

Dual monitors for games are horrible unless you like your view cut in half with a 1 inch black area in the middle. Sell your current monitor, get the 27" one you want, run games on Medium which are about all you need for them to look nice with your current setup. Your only cost is the monitor upgrade.

I am actually planning to play only on the 27 inch, the second monitor would be for like guides or music on the side. I want 2 monitors because homework would be a bit easier for me.

Well then I would just use what you have and lower the graphics a notch or 2 for smooth play if you need to. Your system is overall pretty good on the upper mid range. While paying on High or Ultra is fun, I am betting when you are actually playing you won't notice at all if you have shadows from the grass or that you can only see 30,000 blades of grass instead of 50,000 LOL
