I'm having a few problems regarding my new pc. I built it about 2 weeks ago and these problem continues to bug me.

pc spec:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston Fury Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 290 4GB PCS+ Video Card
Case: Silverstone RV04B-W ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Old Parts:
Dell E248WFP
a five year old hdd (I'm thinking of getting a better hard drive but this one seems to be working fine)

1. When I play dota 2 (this only happens to dota 2) I get random freeze in game (it only happens once per game and I can still hear in game sound/my desktop and other things are not frozen, only dota 2) I have to ctrl alt del and close dota 2 and relog back in to solve the problem.

2. When I start the computer, the screen shows the msi logo then turns black with the monitor flashing the message "cannot display this video mode 1920 X 1200, I just have to turn the monitor off then on and the problem is fixed. (I never had this problem with this monitor with my old pc running windows xp)

I updated my gpu driver and reinstalled windows 8.1 multiple times and it seems when I do a fresh install of windows 8.1, the problem with the monitor disappears, but after a few cycles of turning on and off the computer the problem returned.

My cpu with real temp stays at 30 idle and 45 when play dota 2 so its definitely not the problem. I'm planning to run memtest to see if it's faulty memory stick. (Update: ran memtest to 100% and no errors.)

Also, the psu is producing coil whine sounds about a few days ago and I'm planning on RMA it.
any help would be appreciated.

I also tried windows 8 and windows 8.1 and nothing was fixed. I also tried Ubuntu but everything felt slow and installing drivers was a pain so now I'm back to using windows 8.1.

It's definitely dota 2 problem because I installed deus ex as well as path of exile from steam and both has yet to freeze on me. Anyone have any ideas? I searched online and it seems that other people are having the same problem but there's yet to be a solution. Every thread on this problem just ends with no answers...
