New computer setup- Will it work?

I'm building my first comp. Here are the component I plan of buying:

Case: ASPIRE X-Navigator ATXA8NW-AL/500 Silver/Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ $482

MB: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe $175

Mem: CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Platinum Heat Sprdr. Dual Channel Kit System $188

HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3200822AS 200GB $114

Vid card: SAPPHIRE 100106 Radeon X850XT 256MB PCI-E $498

DVD burner: NEC Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner $47


Will this work? Any parts that can be replaced with a comparable, but lower priced part? Any thing anyone thinks needs to be added? Thanks.

Wow... you clearly have a lot of money to spend here.

IMHO the A64 4000+ is a little bit pricey right now for the minimal performance advantage that it will give you. As well, why buy an SLI mobo if you aren't going to use the SLI. If I was you, and I had this much money I would lose the X850 and downgrade to a A64 3200 or 3500 and get two 6600's as to really utilize the SLI, but maybe that's me.

Truth be told though, I really haven't been "blown away" by the performance of SLI in any of the reviews that I have seen with any current games. Although if someone has a good review to the contrary, I would love to see it (or even a bad review).

If you are going to get an ATI card, what is the point of getting SLI? Why not get an nForce4 Ultra board and pocket the $50 savings? Or better yet, put it towards getting a Western Digital 74GB Raptor instead of the Barracuda. Unless the 200GB is necessary.

Also, I have been hearing negative comments about Corsair around these boards. The OCZ value VX might be a better choice for the same price.

Wow... nice point with the Raptor. I can't believe that I didn't say it. I agree, I have 300GB on my rig and I use less than 50GB. Such a waste, when I should have bought a Raptor. But you know best how much you will use, so you can make that call based on that.

P.S. Who has been telling you negative things about Corsair on the Asus board? Did you read a review or something? I would love to know where this came from... this could be something that affects some of the decisions I have coming up.

Oops, I meant board as in the message board, or forum. Sorry about the confusion. From the comments I have read it seems like Corsair does not offer the same bang for the buck as other memory manufacturers currently.

Oh, I see... alright... whoever told this to Over_c I want you to come out now and let me know what this is all about. Point me in the direction of a good review. I haven't seen a good RAM review in a while, maybe I'll try to hunt one down. But I have always been rather fond of Corsair, my current rig has Corsair in it... and I have been happy, although I am only mildly OCed.

Same here. I luv my Corsair. It was a little pricy, but well worth it.

Well first off, seems like you've got quite a bit of dough to play with there. I wish I had the disposable income...

The PSU that comes with the case probably isn't something too great. You'd probably be better off getting a Lian-Li or something and then adding a OCZ 420W PowerStream.

As some people have said the 4000+ is pretty expensive for what you're getting although it has just recently dropped in price. If you've got the money, fine, but if you're looking to save some, a 3700+ San Diego is very nice as well.

Again,the SLI mobo's kinda useless if you're not using SLI with it (and you can't with the ATI card).
