New computer windows installation problems

hey i just finished building my first computer, and im trying to install windows 8.1 to a brand new hard drive, however i keep getting the 0x80070057 error code and says it cant format a partition,

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

When are you getting this error? It's caused by an error in the system reserved partition, the ~100mb partition windows stores the boot data and authentication info on.

If this is happening after you go through the first installation options where you pick the drive to install to etc, you'll need to enter the advanced install options menu before that point and delete the partitions that were created in the previous attempt.

I actually had this problem with 8.1 on my computer when I first built it, I tried everything suggested and none of it worked so i tried moving the SATA cable to a different port on the mobo and it seemed to work fine, not guaranteeing anything but its worth a shot
