just got a gateway fx6800. bios has no options for overclocking, suggestions?
the bios is a gateway variant of the ami bios. any experiance with backtracking to xp instead of vista, will the custom bios be a problem

it is a locked bios, you cant change fsb or multiplier. the only way to overclock the chip is use a utility like clock gen. I have no experience with it tho, so I cant really tell you how to go about making it stable with the program. As for rolling back to XP, it shouldnt be a problem, as long as you have a disk for xp

tanks . the unit was a christmas gift from my son and i hate to see it not working but it has crashed to blue screen now. looks like a return item

if you still want to Overclock after you return it and dont feel comfortable with building your own machine, goto a custom builder, like vigor gaming or AVA Direct. You can get the parts you want, not the crap the OEM throws at you, and if you really want XP, you can choose it as your OS and not have to waste money on 2 OS'.
