New computers for office

I'm currently in the process of building 4 new computers for my office. There will be a lot of games on them and some web dev tools used. But a lot of muilty tasking going on.

Here's a quick run down of the two systems I have in mind so far.

AMD system

• COOLER MASTER Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail

What do you guys/gals think about them and what would you recommend as well. Which one would be best. Please don't just state because you like brand A better then brand B. Good vaild points on why I should use it instead of other things.

Want to stay around and not go above $2500 US per system. I would like to get differnet cases for sure and power supplys.

Best to go with Intel chipset, one driver for all mobo components.

I would still get AMD system, it's much more cost effective and quieter.
AMD system is also much faster.

Since you're getting the Retail versionof the AMD CPU, just use the stock cooling.

Well as it stands with price quotes from newegg, the AMD system is around $200 more $$ then the intel system.

Your systems are not equal.
You have much faster AMD cpu, AMD system has SLI etc.

Equal systems would be Pentium 840 vs X2 3800, and AMD system without SLI.
That would make AMD cheaper, and it would still be equal in performance (average performance).

Get A64 X2 4200+. It's cheaper and performs very little slower than X2 4400+

Everything is almost same price. Only real differces is The CPU's prices. Amd's CPU are more $$$ compared to Intel's now. Ram is a little bit differnet. Tho I'm more aimed towards the AMD system just on the fact that it doesn't use DDR2 which I'll never understand why Intel is pushing people to make the switch to a slower Ram.
P4 cost is:
CPU: 314
MB: 219
AMD cost is:
CPU: 548.01
MB: 178

You are forgetting the fact that X2 3800 is equal or faster than Pentium D830.
X2 3800 is also about 150 cheaper than X2 4400.

So if CPU seems too expensive, get the X2 3800.

Very true about the X2 3800+

Just check the benchmarks for them and in most new games isn't much differnce. For sure not worth the extra $200 for 0.2GHz more.

We are starting a Game server hosting company and we need computers that are able to log into any game we provide to make sure everything is fine. And I do a lot of differnet things at once on my pc as is. http://www.cyberxtremeservers.com if you wanted to check it out. We are still in the planing stages but will hopefully be up next month. Just need to get the ok from the investors really and the money.

Yes that is true to a point. We plan to have AMD servers when we find a supplier that keeps a large enought stock of them. So far every supplier I've talked to runs out of stock each week and they can't order large supplys of them because AMD isn't making enough of them. As well the price on them has gone up in the past two month and from what I've been told from supplier they will be jumping in price once again very soon.

Since it's so hard to keep them in stock incase we need to put another one up that day, or replace something that goes down. Most providers only provide Intel. Some provide both. But Intel does have a very strong foot hold on the server market which makes it hard for AMD. But if AMD would actully produce more they would be better off. Price would go down instead of up, which is some what wierd for CPU's unless they are extremely old ones.

Well, they are lying (at least some of them), they want to sell Intel servers because they get (or loose) rebats from Intel.

Antec P160 and a Enermax 535w psu. You might even want to go with one of those 600w psu's. OCZ 600 maybe...or Enermax 550w...the enermax 600w has issues, so don't go there. Typically though, Enermax is a very dependable source.

If you're getting 4 computers, might as well get two of each (intel and amd). I'd stick with the 4400 over the 4200 on the amd side...if only because of the larger cache size. If the 4200 had a larger cache, i'd say just oc 5% to make up the difference,but since it doesn't (not to mention the 2gb issues with oc'n)... Also if you want more then just the 1 box listed, i'd recommend most any box from lian li, cooler master, and alot of the antec/chieftec variety are good too.

One last thing...cooling...stock is fine unless you plan to OC. I'd also recommend a side vent or fan if you plan on two 7800s at some point.

If you like the logitech mx510, they have released a corded version of the laser mouse called the G-5. It's pretty cool, with quite a bit of a jump in dpi. The 518 is out there as well. (not laser but one step up from the 510) I have the 510's and love em, but if I were buying right now, I would be getting a G5. Just MHO, and not nearly your biggest concern with these sytems.

 I doubt, therefore I might be.
