The Corsair CX850M PSU doesn't get the best reviews. It used to come in a mostly whitish (edit/correction: actually it is black and white) box and have a 3 year warranty. Now there is a yellowish box and a 5 year warranty. A salesman told me that the newer version has better Japanese capacitors. Any information in this regard?

Channel Well Technology is not changing the CX line, they (from what I see here) are trying to replace the CX line with the better Vengeance line. I know Chemi-Con electrolytics because of their color and the symbol on them. The pink polymer caps are usually always Teapo capacitors, though I personally am not skilled in identifying them other than by color, looks, symbol, and names on them.

I have read the PSU tier lists. I specifically told a salesman at Microcenter that I preferred an RM850. But he claimed that the newer version of the CX850M does have good Japanese capacitors. It does have a 5 year warranty now. The salesman was very knowledgeable. Was he mistaken, lying? Why does the newer CX850M have a 5 year warranty, which is the same 5 years as the warranty for the RM850? It's on the box.

Actually no. I want the higher wattage for possible future upgrades. I might eventually want to SLI a 980 ti. I would just like to know why the CX850M just got a 5 year warranty instead of a 3 year warranty.

I have considered EVGA PSUs. I understand they make good quality PSUs.
But I still would like, out of curiosity and not for choosing purposes, to know whether the CX850M now has good Japanese capacitors or not, and if that explains its upgraded warranty.

does that warrantly really matter if u put your pc under high stress and all of ur components are frien?
believe corsair isnt going to refund that.

CX Series Modular power supply units are an excellent choice for basic system builds and desktop PC computer upgrades, offering high reliability, low noise, and the flexibility of modular cabling.

I am asking whether it has Japanese caps. It does have a 5 year warranty.

Here is Corsairs's own site. On Overview it still says 3 year warranty. On Tech specs tab it says 5 year warranty.

And here is a picture of the box showing that it is still Bronze rated, but has a 5 year warranty.

Microcenter still indicates a 3 year warranty on its website. In the Saint Louis store one finds the yellowish box with the 5 year warranty, as in the picture in the link above:

Newegg indicates a 5 year warranty, out of stock, and $189:

On Amazon it shows a picture of the older whitish (white and black) box if one clicks on the appropriate picture in a column on the left. And indicates a 3 year warranty:

As far as i am away of only the primary cap is a japanese (nippon), the secondarys are Taicon(Taiwanese) which are better than the Capxons used in most of the other CXs. It's probably the best of the CXs its biggest problem is price, at $120($100 after MIR) there are simply better quality 850w PSUs available for less.

Look at the image here: http://www.technic3d.com/review/netzteile/1874-corsair-vengeance-netzteil-mit-650-watt-im-test/1.htm

From what I see, all the electrolytics seem to be Chemicon, not just the primary. With that, the pink polymers are Teapo I'm quite sure, and Teapo polymers should last longer than those Chemicons anyway, so looks like Corsair does have something nice under their sleeve. A budget oriented unit with a 5 year warranty and quality capacitors looks promising to me, too.

I am wondering if Corsair is also temporarily putting the better capacitors in the newer models of CX850M. If they have changed the actual manufacturer, and are putting Japanese caps in another CX-related, Bronze-certified-only line, then it would not seem to be such a stretch. I suppose one could get the UL reference number off of old and newer versions of the CX850M and see if they are different manufacturers

One can apparently look at the capacitors and ID them? Pink color? Does a picture one can get by clicking on thumb-nails on this site show the better capacitors?
